Job Description - Kitchen Manager

As a Kitchen Manager, you have a very important job in our stores. The kitchen manager is responsible for the daily operations of the kitchen and ensuring compliance to the Ou Meul standards of perfection in all kitchen areas: prep, scullery, refuse, storage, staff management and budget forecasts. You are one of the store leaders and are responsible for everything that happens in the kitchen and making sure that our customers are getting amazing food and products, every single time. You will also be responsible for managing the bakery side of the business alongside the kitchen.

List of Responsibilities & duties, including but not limited to:

  • Full menu knowledge including all main menu items, limited menu items, coffees, teas, cocktails, wines, smoothies, milkshakes and other beverages.:

  • Excellent knowledge on the running of the kitchen, including preparation of all recipes, prep items and menu items.:

  • Excellent knowledge of health and safety and food safety:

  • Excellent knowledge of how to control waste:

  • Ensuring stock is checked, signed and stored timeously.:

  • Ensuring equipment is serviced and operational.:

  • Ensuring knives are kept sharp.:

  • Ensuring first aid procedures are adhered to.:

  • Ensuring accidents or relevant incidents are reported to management.:

  • Ensuring that the correct recipes and procedures are followed in the kitchen:

  • Ensure the kitchen is kept clean and tidy:

  • Ensure that food safety procedures are followed at all times.:

  • The ability to run variance and wastage reports and come up with action plans accordingly:

  • Daily planning and delegating to members of the kitchen team.:

  • Full Knowledge of ordering procedures, including daily bread orders, cake orders, fruit & veg ordering.:

  • Any bakery experience or knowledge is an advantage:

  • An ability to ensure the smooth running of the kitchen. Ensuring the staff on shift are aware of their duties, responsibilities and that these duties are completed timeously, efficiently and correctly. Issues are to be dealt with quickly and efficiently, keeping in mind always the importance of customer satisfaction.:

  • A good knowledge of rostering and staffing, particularly to do with the kitchen and baking. In this regard, the Kitchen Manager should have a basic knowledge of how many staff are required on a shift and can organise and draw up a roster for the kitchen if needed.:

  • Managing the team in the kitchen, making sure they are trained and kept up to date with any new recipes or procedures.:

  • You will need to be involved in stock take and will be responsible for managing the stock in the kitchen and the bakery.:

  • You will be responsible for the quality of the baked product and the kitchen product being served.:

  • You will need to be able to work under pressure in a fast paced environment.:

  • The ability to deal with customers in a friendly, professional manner. Can handle basic complaints including, but not limited to, incorrect orders and cold food.:

  • Must always have a friendly, professional disposition toward customers and colleagues alike.:

  • Must live in Riviersonderend and surrounding area or be willing to relocate.
