Job Description:
- The Safety Manager is responsible for managing the Safety Section, at Venetia Mine.
Your role will:
- Assist with achieving the VOP Safety KPI’s at operational level through supporting and driving the overall safety improvement plan.
- Stakeholder management and knowledge sharing through initiating and rolling out Safety awareness campaigns, best practices, technologies and relevant equipment identified.
Provide direction and management to the Safety Section and will be required as a minimum to take direct responsibility in delivering the below:
Risk:
Alignment to the Operational Risk Management Programme of the mine.
- Continued certification to ISO 45001
Operational and Compliance:
Safety officer inspections
- Learning from Incidents programme
- Critical control verification
- Continued implementation of Safety Management System
- Short term safety improvement drives
Administration:
Safety Reporting
- Monitoring and governance of ISOMETRIX system as well as providing training and support
- Tracking and submission of Alert 1 and 2 reports
Safety analyst and assurance specialist:
Incident analysis and recommendation for future programs
- Behavioural safety programs
Qualifications
- Formal qualifications:
- Grade 12 Certificate
- Min of Recognized Engineering /Technical Degree (e.g. Bachelors’ Degree or Advanced Diploma in Environmental Science / Risk Management/ Mining Engineering and Safety Management)
- Registration with a South African professional (SHE) institution would be advantageous
- A leadership or management development programme would be advantageous
Additional requirements:
- Code B (08) Driver’s License
- Successfully obtained a Red Ticket (Medical Fitness certificate) on mine
- The post is dependent on the successful completion of the Company’s pre-employment protocol such as qualifications verification, relevant psychometric assessments and a clear security clearance
Role-specific knowledge:
- Minimum of 7 years’ Mining Experience is essential
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience at a managerial level
