Job Description:

  • The Safety Manager is responsible for managing the Safety Section, at Venetia Mine.

Your role will:

  • Assist with achieving the VOP Safety KPI’s at operational level through supporting and driving the overall safety improvement plan.
  • Stakeholder management and knowledge sharing through initiating and rolling out Safety awareness campaigns, best practices, technologies and relevant equipment identified.
  • Provide direction and management to the Safety Section and will be required as a minimum to take direct responsibility in delivering the below:

  • Risk:

  • Alignment to the Operational Risk Management Programme of the mine.

  • Continued certification to ISO 45001
  • Operational and Compliance:

  • Safety officer inspections

  • Learning from Incidents programme
  • Critical control verification
  • Continued implementation of Safety Management System
  • Short term safety improvement drives
  • Administration:

  • Safety Reporting

  • Monitoring and governance of ISOMETRIX system as well as providing training and support
  • Tracking and submission of Alert 1 and 2 reports
  • Safety analyst and assurance specialist:

  • Incident analysis and recommendation for future programs

  • Behavioural safety programs

Qualifications
- Formal qualifications
:

  • Grade 12 Certificate
  • Min of Recognized Engineering /Technical Degree (e.g. Bachelors’ Degree or Advanced Diploma in Environmental Science / Risk Management/ Mining Engineering and Safety Management)
  • Registration with a South African professional (SHE) institution would be advantageous
  • A leadership or management development programme would be advantageous

Additional requirements:

  • Code B (08) Driver’s License
  • Successfully obtained a Red Ticket (Medical Fitness certificate) on mine
  • The post is dependent on the successful completion of the Company’s pre-employment protocol such as qualifications verification, relevant psychometric assessments and a clear security clearance

Role-specific knowledge:

  • Minimum of 7 years’ Mining Experience is essential
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience at a managerial level
