Educational or Counselling Psychologist

Duties/Pligte

  • Rendering psychological support services to students who are registered for the Extended Degree Programme (EDP) of Stellenbosch University;
  • Conducting intake interviews;
  • Making a diagnosis (if applicable);
  • Individual and group psychotherapy;
  • Providing academic support;
  • Providing career counselling;
  • Report writing; Developing intervention programmes (may include applicable referrals);
  • Case management of EDP students (may include needs analysis and appropriate referral to other services on campus, e.g. to social services);
  • Developmental work (including work sessions, for example, about study methods, time management, stress management and exam preparation);
  • Following up on referrals made by Faculty support staff;
  • Developing and implementing a support model for EDP students.
  • Lewering van sielkundige ondersteuningsdienste aan studente wat geregistreer is vir die Verlengde Graadprogramme (VGP) wat deur die Universiteit Stellenbosch aangebied word;
  • Voer inname-onderhoude;
  • Diagnoseer (indien van toepassing);
  • Individuele en groep-psigoterapie;
  • Verskaf akademiese ondersteuning;
  • Verskaf loopbaanvoorligting;
  • Verslagskrywing;
  • Ontwikkeling van intervensieprogramme (kan toepaslike verwysings insluit);
  • Gevallebestuur van VGP-studente (kan 'n behoefteanalise en verwysing na toepaslike eksterne dienste op kampus - byvoorbeeld na 'n maatskaplike werker - insluit);
  • Ontwikkelingswerk (insluitend werksessies in byvoobeeld tydsbestuur, studievaardighede, streshantering en voorbereiding vir eksamens;
  • Opvolg van verwysings deur die Fakulteite se ondersteuningspersoneel;
  • Ontwikkeling en implementering van 'n ondersteuningsmodel vir VGP studente.

Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes

  • Master's degree in Educational Psychology, e.g. MEdPsych or MA in Counselling Psychology or equivalent qualification;
  • Registration as educational or counselling psychologist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa;
  • Successful completion of a module in career guidance / occupational psychology at Master's level;
  • At least twelve months relevant experience in academic counselling at a higher education institution or with adolescents in a high school environment;
  • Experience in psychotherapy for adolescents and young adults;
  • Computer proficiency;
  • Experience in group facilitation; Psychosocial support to a diverse client population;
  • The ability to work under pressure;
  • The ability to work effectively in a team;
  • The ability to work according to a fixed schedule in a structured environment and deliver a quality service;
  • Empathetic;
  • An independent worker;
  • Transparent and effective communication styles;
  • Conscientious;
  • Punctual.
  • Meestersgraad in Opvoedkundige Sielkunde, byvoorbeeld MEdPsig of 'n MA graad in Voorligtingsielkunde of soortgelyke kwalifikasie;
  • Registrasie as opvoedkundige sielkundige of voorligtingsielkundige by die Raad vir Gesondheidsberoepe van Suid-Afrika;
  • Suksesvolle afhandeling van 'n module in loopbaanvoorligting/beroepsielkunde op Meestersvlak;
  • Minstens twaalf maande se toepaslike ervaring van akademiese voorligting aan studente by 'n hoëronderwys instansie of tienerjariges by 'n hoërskoolomgewing;
  • Bewese ervaring in die psigoterapeutiese ondersteuning van tieners en jong volwassenes;
  • Rekenaarvaardigheid;
  • Ervaring in die fasilitering van groepe;
  • Psigososiale ondersteuning aan 'n diverse kliëntepopulasie;
  • Die vermoë om onder druk te werk;
  • Die vermoë om effektief in spanverband te werk;
  • Die vermoë om volgens 'n vasgestelde skedule in 'n gestruktureerde omgewing 'n kwaliteitdiens te lewer;
  • Empaties; 'n Onafhanklike werker;
  • 'n Deursigtige en effektiewe kommunikasiestyl;
  • Pligsgetrou;
  • Stiptelik.

Recommendation/Aanbeveling

  • Work experience within a multidisciplinary professional team;
  • Above average written and verbal proficiency in English and one other official South African language;
  • Training or experience in brain based learning practices;
  • Experience and knowledge within the field of community psychology;
  • Proven experience in trauma counselling.
  • Werkservaring as lid van 'n multidissiplinêre professionele span;
  • Bogemiddelde skriftelike en mondelinge taalvaardigheid in Engels sowel as een van Suid-Afrika se ander amptelike tale;
  • Opleiding en/of ervaring in breingebaseerde leerpraktyke;

  • Bewese ervaring in traumaberading.
