JOB TITLE Laboratory Assistant (Cape Town, South Africa)
SALARY: Market Related
JOB PURPOSE
My client works in a collaborative manner with clients to provide customised, flexible and multi-faceted biomarker solutions. We use innovative approaches and validated equipment to answer client-specific questions related to biomarkers at each level of the biological continuum. The scientific team are at the forefront of this, responsible for the development and validation of bioanalytical tests to meet the company or client’s needs. The main purpose and objective of the Laboratory Assistant is to support the laboratory operations team with sample processing and day-to-day administration duties.
DUTIES may include, but are not limited to:
- Perform PBMC isolations and cryopreservation.
- Perform the Good House Keeping of all labs
- includes monitoring and verification of temperature systems.
- Ensuring equipment used in the various laboratories undergoes annual services as well as keep track of
- and perform in-house PQs.
- Management, monitoring and ordering of consumable stock in the labs.
- Creation and maintenance of IQOQPQ documentation for equipment - managing equipment documentation.
- Implementation and improvement of various worksheets and forms linked to equipment used in laboratories.
- Writing and reviewing deviations and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) related to on site equipment as well as GHK related findings.
- Stock management on LIMS. Ad-hoc
- Assisting in the receipt of study samples.
- Managing the storage capacity of ULTs and their contents.
- Performing sample draws.
- Basic sample processing.
- Handling and replacement of liquid nitrogen, dry ice and CO2 cylinders.
- Assisting in the transcription checking of data generated in the ELISA/Flow/PGx labs.
- Creating asset labels for new equipment.
- Upkeep of general equipment in laboratory (i.e. UPS).
QUALIFICATIONS
certificate in Laboratory Assistance is a minimum requirement and / or two years’ experience in a laboratory environment.
KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Experience in Ficoll PBMC isolation from large blood volumes. This is the most technically challenging technique for isolation for PBMCs, so experience in this particular method is required.
- Experience in PBMC cryopreservation.
- Experience in cell counting.
- General understanding of the PBMC isolation and cryopreservation process, critical steps, etc.
This ensures ability to operate independently and to trouble shoot should the need arise.
