Quality Control Inspector Job Overview
Reporting to the Senior Quality & Documentation Manager, this role is responsible for inspecting, monitoring, and evaluating product quality to customer specification, and existing documents, drawings, standards, and procedures.
Specific responsibilities will also include:
- Inspect products, parts and machines to applicable drawings, work orders and customer orders to ensure customer expectations are met and that any order changes have been properly captured then fully executed through the system.
- Dimensionally verify components to drawings (or other technical documents or procedures) to ensure they meet requirements and specifications.
- Ensure the measurement method and tool meet metrology standards. If it does not, initiate action to improve.
- Inspect surface finish to comply with work order instructions.
- Etch and make bar-coded labels.
- Initiate, document, disposition and action non-conforming parts or other outputs. Complete required NCR reports, monitor and expedite status to ensure timely resolutions to quality problems.
- Troubleshoot quality issues and take initiative to correct and contain quality problems.
- Provide cross functional quality guidance and education to those outside the quality department.
- Assist with and conduct final product audits.
- Assist with maintaining calibration status of all measuring tools.
- Perform parts treatment and inspection processes such as citric acid passivation, dye penetrant test, saline tests etc., as required.
- Work in compliance with the company’s health and safety and policies and procedures as well as ISO standards and procedures.
- Other duties, as assigned.
- Post-secondary education in quality field or a trade certification in Machining, Fabrication or Tool & Die with inspection/layout experience
- 2-5 years of related inspection experience within a custom manufacturing environment
- Good written and verbal communications required.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical bulletins
- Knowledge and experience with GDT preferred including tolerance stack-ups
- Technical mechanical knowledge and mechanical aptitude
- Strong interpersonal abilities with the capacity to respectfully interact and problem solve with a wide range of individuals.
