**Position Summary
The Canadian Sport Institute Pacific is in search of a full-time Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach (S&C Coach) to be based out of our Victoria Campus. Reporting to the Strength and Conditioning Lead, The Assistant S&C Coach will assist in the preparation of Victoria based National Teams & NextGen Programs through evidence-based interventions, world-leading service, and consultations with sports coaches. This position is designed for an individual with mínimal experience in a high-performance training environment and will receive tangible skill development through mentorship from a range of coaches with solid experience working with various sports. The successful applicant for this position will also assist in the weekly maintenance and upkeep of the High-Performance Gym & Recovery Area in Victoria. This position will require on-site attendance at sport-specific training sessions and possible travel.
This position may provide support to multiple facility locations within the Greater Victoria area, travel between sites is the responsibility of the employee.
Responsibilities:
- Foster performance excellence though leadership, education, and evidence-based innovation of integrated sport science and sport medicine teams
- Supervise strength & conditioning sessions ensuring proper technique is utilized and hygiene/safety standards are followed
- With guidance from a range of coaches with solid experience working with various sports; evaluate and prioritize those fitness components necessary to achieve optimal performance levels
- With guidance from a range of coaches with solid experience working with various sports; establish short
- and long-term goals, designing strength & conditioning programs for individual athletes, and determine all aspects of training cycles
- Consult with sport medicine and para-medical professionals to ensure programs minimize the risk and severity of potential injuries and collaborate to provide rehabilitation as appropriate
- Test and evaluate new strength & conditioning approaches or equipment (e.g. velocity-based training, force plates, etc.) to determine value with regard to assigned sports
- Record strength & conditioning data, maintain database, and provide input into database development and enhancement
- Conduct flexibility, warm-up, and physical conditioning exercises in training and prior to competition as required
- Organize and conduct follow-up testing/evaluation as required both in the field and using the sport performance labs
- In cooperation with sports physiologists, observe and measure physical fitness levels and changes and provides progress reports
- Monitor progress; review with coach and athlete; and adjust program, schedule or routine accordingly
- Perform coverage for Victoria based S&C Coaching staff away for travel and/or holidays
- Facility maintenance of CSI Pacific’s High-Performance Gym/Equipment, Recovery area, Storage rooms
- Conduct applied projects with the potential to impact the Daily Training Environment
- Actively participating in CSI Pacific team events, meetings, and professional development opportunities as well as regular liaison with colleagues in other sport institutes, universities, and jurisdictions
- Recent graduates of Master’s or Ph.D. programs in sports science or related area
- 1-3 years’ experience in a high-performance training environment
- Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) Certification or equivalent
- Olympic weightlifting training (NCCP or international equivalent)
- First Aid and CPR C
- Current driver’s license
- Background as a coach and/or athlete is an asset
- Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications and experience working with databases
- Good team building skills and the ability to be flexible and adjust to changing priorities
- Successful completion of a Criminal Records Check
- The ability to participate in national and international team travel
