Job Title: Senior Food Scientist

Department: Research and Development

Reports to: VP of Operations

Work Hours: Day shift, Monday through Friday. Hours may vary depending on production support needs, including occasional weekend shifts.

Position Overview

The Food Scientist will support the commitment and continual innovation of the company’s product range

Responsibilities

  • Research & Development in the ready-to-eat industry;
  • New product development from concept to full-scale production; o Create recipes, make samples, and communicate with customers (timing, pricing, expectations, etc.) o Set up and manage full-scale production trials o Create production forms and finished product specifications o Perform and manage sensory evaluations on current and new products
  • Organize and manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines and communicating status;
  • Optimize bar recipes to tailor products to production capabilities and processes;
  • Assist in procurement of new ingredients through review and approval of necessary documentation;
  • Help identify and implement cost savings initiatives;
  • Provide technical R&D support to other departments within the company;
  • Keep current with government regulations concerning ingredients and food labeling;
  • Understanding of various certifications: Non-GMO, Kosher, Organic, etc.;
  • All other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Have a strong sense of purpose, work well with mínimal supervision and is assertive in the pursuit of quality and accuracy;
  • Work closely and collaboratively with colleagues, customers, and suppliers;
  • Conform to all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s);
  • Degree in Food Science or related field of study;
  • 5 years of relevant experience, preferably in the bar manufacturing industry;
  • Ability to be flexible and resilient while remaining positive to shifting business needs;
  • Effective creative problem-solving skills and troubleshooting experience in a manufacturing environment;
  • Intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Office;
  • Working knowledge of Genesis R&D, SQL software a plus;
  • Working knowledge of product labeling and NFPs;
  • Regulatory compliance experience or knowledge;
  • Good written and oral communication skills;
  • Attention to details;
  • Ability to follow established procedures;
  • Ability to work effectively in or with a team;
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously;
  • Excellent problem solving, time management and acute sensory skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in an office environment and food laboratory with exposure to major allergens;
  • Ability to communicate proficiently with others in English;
  • Ability to sit and perform work on a computer or at a desk;
  • Ability to sit, stand and/or walk for extended periods of time (up to 10 hours);
  • Ability to use hands to digitally manipulate laboratory and office equipment, as well as handle food products;
  • Ability to regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds;
  • Ability to distinguish shades of color to identify abnormalities and/or defects in food products;
  • Ability to taste, feel and describe sensory aspects of food products;
  • Ability to travel if needed.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: $65,000.00-$75,000.00 per year
