Procurement Manager Nutrition and Ice Cream - SnA
JOB TITLE : Procurement Manager
DEPARTMENT : Procurement, Supply Chain
LOCATION : Durban, South Africa
MAIN JOB PURPOSE:
Professional sourcing of products/services meeting the specified needs of the business at most competitive commercial terms. Main responsibilities for this position will be to define preferred suppliers list, manage partnerships for value and growth, defining and implementing resilience actions as well as implementing procurement savings, negotiations in market as well as driving supplier led innovation programmes in market. This role will create supplier network that aligns with the overall business objectives for Nutrition and Ice Cream in line with the overall Sourcing Strategy and SUSO agenda.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- To assess, identify and select appropriate supplier base that would meet the needs of the business
- To be responsible for price forecast and deliver the best buying performance possible while navigating through very unstable developing countries’ landscape.
- To deliver cost savings/value creation based on sourcing strategies and compliance management.
- To develop and implement Superior Availability through ASAs, Supplier capacities, etc.
- To develop and implement ZBB and spec simplification
- To manage key stakeholder engagements i.e., Global procurement, BU leads, R&D, Planning
- To continuously improve ways of working and optimize procurement activities
- To develop and implement strategies to support the localization and innovation program
- Follow market conditions, prepare price trends, and formulate future markets trends for the business.
- Support the business with accurate price forecasting. Prepares information on purchase prices and conditions to enable proper budgeting and cash forecasting.
- Identify metrics, tools, and processes to optimize sourcing, supplier activities and efficiencies.
- Work closely with the Procurement operations teams to support the launch of innovations and new product development
- Initiate and drive complexity reduction projects (e.g., harmonization of specifications and suppliers)
- Manage supply issues (e.g., material shortages and resilience, service, and quality challenges).
- Measure and manage overall performance of suppliers.
Responsibilities:
- To develop, implement and drive Unilever procurement strategies
- To assess, identify and select the appropriate supplier base that would meet the needs of the business
- To directly lead or co-ordinate large procurement projects him/herself as needed.
- To deliver cost savings based on sourcing strategies and compliance management.
- To continuously improve ways of working and optimize procurement activities.
- To handle complex and diverse customer, supplier or operational issues within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
- To ensure the satisfaction of Unilever's internal customers with the services provided by the procurement organization
- To lead the rationalization of suppliers, materials and services that meet Unilever's business requirements
- To develop, coach and mentor resources within a high performing and motivated team responsible for interfacing with internal stakeholders and suppliers.
- To support the collaboration with senior functional leaders to establish both short and long-term business objectives.
- To lead cross-functional initiatives and represent Unilever's interests in the management of external strategic relationships.
- In the context of Partner to Win, to identify, develop and manage strategic business relationships to enable implementation of the Unilever growth strategy, revenue achievement and new product development initiatives
- To support Unilever Sustainable Living Plan in the procurement of materials and services
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
ESSENTIAL
- University degree
- Negotiation and communication skills
- At least 5 years’ experience in Procurement or Supply Chain
- Financial acumen for business cases and reporting
WORK LOCATION:
Unilever La Lucia Ridge Head Office, hybrid.
REPORTING CHANNEL
This role reports directly into the Head of Procurement, Africa. The incumbent will also be a part of the Africa Procurement Leadership team and drive strategic programmes across SnA. There are 3 direct reports into this role.
