An exciting opportunity has opened up at Nando’s South Africa to join the Sustainability and Social Impact Department as Head of Sustainability & Social Impact, based at our Central Kitchen (CK) offices in Johannesburg.
The Head of Sustainability & Social Impact is responsible for establishing the carbon reduction strategies for Nando’s South Africa and contributing towards the growth and success of the social impact initiatives across the South African business.

Minimum Requirements:
- 5 + years experience in a senior management role
- 8 + years experience is sustainability
- Retail experience (advantageous)
- Knowledge of Carbon Footprint auditing
- Knowledge of Small Business Development
- Knowledge of Carbon offsetting
- Knowledge of sustainable power generation
- Knowledge of the Retail Environment
- Knowledge of key Environmental and Social Governance (ESG) issues affecting the businesses
- Knowledge of key sustainability tools/ methodologies
Duties and Responsibilities:
Developing Nando’s South Africa Carbon Reduction Strategies. 30%
- Responsible for developing the overall sustainability plan to establish baselines and targets to reduce Nando’s carbon
- footprint.
- Identify and implement initiatives to mitigate carbon emissions.
- Lead carbon mitigation team to influence and align initiatives in the business to support carbon reduction.
Monitoring and tracking of carbon reduction according to science-based targets. 20%
- Develop systems to collate business-wide data to enable annual reporting.
- Gathering and collating information from stakeholders across the business.
- Collaborate with carbon consultants to verify annual emissions.
- Monitor baselines and targets to ensure continuous achievement of goals.
Reporting on carbon emissions 10%
- Compile annual reports to auditors' standards to ensure compliance according to science-based targets.
- Compile interim progress reports.
- Present reports to relevant parties to support business decision-making.
Growth of Social Impact initiatives 30%
- Review and assess existing initiatives to establish business-wide targets.
- Review and assess structures, procedures, and systems to ensure the successful execution of services and initiatives.
- Develop and implement strategies to scale social initiatives globally within Nando’s SA business.
- Monitor and report on progress aligned to targets set and business expectations.
- Establish mechanisms to successfully enable self-funding of initiatives as aligned to the strategy and plan.
Budget Management 10%
- Compile sustainability and social impact budget.
- Monitor and review expenditures to budget.
- Compile and manage project budgets.
