Host
- The first point of contact
The restaurant host(s) are the first employee to interact with arriving guests as they enter the restaurant. The guest comes first and is the #1 priority. It is the responsibility of the host(s) to greet arriving guests, welcome them into our establishment and seat them. The guests receive their first impression of the service of the restaurant by their exchange with the host(s).
The host(s) is a personal representation of the service and overall hospitality of the staff of the restaurant. While guests are waiting to be seated or waiting for take-out orders to be completed, it is the job of the host(s) to ensure that the guests are made comfortable and kept informed of the status of their orders and/or wait times.
Job Duties
- The responsibilities of the host(s) include monitoring the open dining sections of the establishment for empty and cleaned tables
- Estimating wait times for guests
- Monitoring the guest waiting list, and ensuring that the needs of the guests are met while they are waiting
- The host(s) is often responsible for answering the telephone, booking reservations through our software platform and coordinating tables together to accommodate large parties
- Hosting shifts may include:
- Anchor host shift
- Always positioned at front door, greeting guests, organizing seating chart and waitlists, designating tables, and keeping track of restaurant status by way of other hosts
- Food running/Expo shift
- Positioned at expo with chef, responsible for helping to communicate between servers and kitchen to modify, complete and dress in-house and takeout orders, running food to tables, communicating 86’d items to all staff, assisting with UberEats orders
- Seating/greeting shift
- Greeting guests and determining needs, escorting guests to tables, communicate with servers that a table has been sat for them, assist anchor host with their needs be that the guest list, phone, assisting another guest, collect menus from server stands & wipe them down, assist with bussing and flipping tables
- Bussing shift
- Consistently walk laps around restaurant to check for dirty tables, pre-bussing tables, emptying station bus bins, clearing glassware/cutlery, clear and wipe tables, communicate with anchor host, ensure cutlery has been run through dish, ensure cutlery has been polished, rolled and brought back to server station, support wherever else needed
- Responsible for maintaining the Retail store/Beer Store onsite in addition to cash related procedures. Some shifts may include being stationed within our “"Expo" food station within Graffiti.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience within the hospitality industry is an asset but not a requirement.
- Previous experience within a retail environment.
- Customer Service experience.
- The ability to read and write English fluently, to take and follow instructions in both verbal and written forms and to have the basic assessment and math skills to estimate wait times for guests.
- SmartServe Certified is an asset
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Permanent
Part-time hours: 24-40 per week
Salary: $15.50 per hour
