The Role:
What's the role?

This position provides technical expertise in the areas of corrosion and materials. The Materials & Corrosion Engineer works in the Mechanical Integrity Department with expertise in the areas of materials selection and specification, welding, failure analysis, corrosion management, corrosion monitoring, Risk Based Inspection, corrosion inhibition and cathodic protection. Details and clarity are integrated into scoping enabling effective and efficient design, procurement and execution.

Accountabilities

  • Provide materials and corrosion support to the Asset (including Operations, Technology and Maintenance Teams) on activities related to metallurgy, welding, fabrication, and corrosion control.
  • Verify adherence to material selection and corrosion standards and procedures.
  • Provide design input on materials selection and corrosion protection for run and maintain, plant changes and projects, and plant turnaround.
  • Define and assure implementation of the corrosion management strategies for the Asset, including corrosion inhibition, protective coatings and cathodic protection.
  • Manage Material and Corrosion processes in line with the requirements of the Asset Management System Standard and Recommended Practices.
  • Define the Integrity Operating Window then monitor and assure compliance.
  • Lead Incident investigations, causal reasoning, and root cause failure analysis for materials and corrosion related failures
  • Support Material and corrosion related audit program for the Asset.
  • Support turnaround related activity such as scope definition, work scope challenges, deferral analysis, execution, and post turnaround analysis.
  • Prepare and maintain Unit Corrosion Control Documents within Integrity Management System
  • Provide on the job training and technical coaching on materials and corrosion issues.
  • Provide technical input to pipeline corrosion inhibition, steam cycle and cooling water treatment programs.
  • Maintain strong relationship with Subject Matter Expert on materials and corrosion related topics. Discover potential collaborations in the field.
  • Support Area Management of Change (MOCs) as MOC owner or reviewer.
  • Support all deviations with technical review.
  • Support Management of Threats and Opportunity (MTO) process as threat owner or discipline support.

What we need from You

  • BSc in Engineering or Materials Science required.
  • Preferably 5+ years’ experience in the Oil & Gas or Petrochemical industries.
  • Technical Authority (TA) 3 in Material and Corrosion or may develop over time to TA3.
  • Cross discipline collaboration
  • Knowledge in materials selection, degradation mechanisms, corrosion control systems, failure analysis and Risk Based Inspection
