Instrumentation / Automation Technician

Qualifications + Experience

• N6 Diploma with Trade Test in Automation and Instrumentation OR Qualified Millwright with applicable experience
• T3/S4 Diploma will be an advantage
• 3 years as a Technician in the Electrical field, especially in Automation (Hydraulics and general maintenance / projects)
• Read and understand Electrical drawings
• Electrical and PLC fault finding
• Read and understand Hydraulic / Pneumatic drawings ESSENTIAL
• Able to work on 3 phase 380 V

Knowledge Required

• PLC Programming (Siemens S5, S7, Festo)
• Robotics (Kuka Robots, Motoman Robots, ABB Robots)
• AC/DC Drives and Servo Applications and drives experience
• SCADA (Win CC, WinccFlex) / HMI (Siemens, EBELT, BTxxx, Suetron) Programming

Duties

• Maintenance installation on hydraulic presses, industrial robots, CNC Machines, spot welding guns and well as project installation
• Electrical fault finding
• PLC (Siemens & Festo) and robot programming
• Preventative maintenance
• Improvement and upgrades of a variety of machines
• New projects
• Setting up checklists
• Equipment inventories
• Monthly Kaizens
• Maintaining software backups
• Motors, AC & DC Drivers
• Planning maintenance schedules
• Maintenance, fault finding, programming and control of S5 and S7 PLCs and SEW drives that control Robots, used for the assembling of parts for the motor industry
• Fault finding and correction of electrical problems as there are no Electricians in the Assembly Department on the lines
• Small projects and assist with projects that are run by the Projects Departments
• Upgrades of PLC programs and adding robots
• Servicing of the robots and assist production during the shift
• Pneumatic experience with clamps and cylinders on Jigs
• Hydraulic experience with power packs for Hydraulic Presses and Sealer Systems
• Faultfinding and configuring on Siemens S7 programming and Simatic 7 and MicroWin.
• HMI Simatic S7 and WinCC Flexible.
• Preventative maintenance and work orders.
• Faultfinding and problem solving on hydraulics and pneumatics systems.
• Relays, contactors and sensors.
• Build and repair electrical circuits.
• Attend to faults and breakdowns pertaining to 3 phase electricity motors.
• Conduct root cause analysis and corrective actions in case of machinery failure and quality deviations on ABB robots.
• Operate automatic equipment and maintain production equipment.
• Faultfinding and analyses on Siemens PLCs and networking.
• Repair and optimize ABB robots.
• Change Axis servo motors for ABB robots.
• Perform back-ups and restore programs on ABB robots.
• Perform back-ups and restore programs on Siemens PLCs.
• Faultfinding on robotic integrated systems.
• Faultfinding and adjust camera vision systems using Insight Cognex software.
• Work with Scada systems such as Stamp Master and Stamp Ware.
• Repair faulty equipment such as vacuum generators, vacuum suckers and Linax robots.
• Calibrate the 6 Axis of ABB robots when required.
• Analyze and faultfinding industrial communication errors within robots, Profibus DP and Ethernet cables.
• Faultfinding on Siemens drives.
• Perform preventative maintenance on robots.
• Conduct a fishbone charts to understand the breakdowns.
• Analyze and interpret electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic diagrams.
• Panasonic Towers robot training for CO2 welding.
