Position:Indigenous Liaison**
Hours/Week: 25-31 Hours per week
Start Date: ASAP

The Fort McMurray Catholic Schools requires a full-time Indigenous Liaison for Sister Mary Phillips School.
Key function(s):
The employee provides social, emotional and academic support and guidance to Indigenous students. Additionally, is a cultural interpreter, role model and mentor of students and staff in understanding Indigenous culture.
Job Qualifications:
- At least one (1) year of experience working with Indigenous Family Support, Community Support Worker or similar type position.
- Certificate/diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution related to Indigenous studies, or Child and Youth, or Social Work diploma or other equivalent combinations of directly related post-secondary education and directly related experience will be considered.
- Access to vehicle and valid class 5 driver’s license
Requirements:
- Knowledge and ability to work effectively with Indigenous students and families
- Ability to work cooperatively with parents, school and community agencies
- Excellent organizational, report writing, and time management skills are essential
- Must be comfortable with home visits
- Ability to organize cultural events and to bring speakers and resources to support our Indigenous educational programs
- Extensive knowledge of Indigenous culture is essential
- Knowledge of Cree and Dene languages is beneficial
- Experience working with students with learning difficulties and training in literacy-numeracy are assets
