Power Plant Designer

As a Power Plant Designer, your role is to design and develop efficient and reliable power generation facilities. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, architects, and project managers to create detailed power plant designs. Your responsibilities will include conceptualization, equipment selection, layout design, system integration, and adherence to industry standards and regulations.

Responsibilities:

  • Conceptualization and Design Development: Work closely with clients, engineers, and project stakeholders to understand project requirements, goals, and constraints. Develop initial conceptual designs for power plants, considering factors such as power generation capacity, fuel source, environmental impact, and cost-efficiency.
  • Equipment Selection and Specification: Select appropriate power generation equipment, such as turbines, generators, boilers, and control systems, based on project requirements and performance criteria. Specify equipment specifications, including capacity, efficiency, and operational parameters.
  • Layout Design and System Integration: Develop detailed layout designs for power plants, including the arrangement of equipment, piping, electrical systems, and support structures. Ensure proper integration of various systems and components to optimize efficiency, safety, and maintainability.
  • Compliance with Standards and Regulations: Ensure that power plant designs comply with applicable industry standards, codes, and regulations. Stay updated on relevant guidelines and requirements, such as those related to safety, environmental impact, and energy efficiency.
  • Technical Analysis and Calculations: Conduct technical analysis and perform calculations to validate the design and ensure the performance and reliability of power plant systems. Analyze factors such as heat transfer, fluid dynamics, electrical load, and structural integrity.
  • Coordination with Engineering Disciplines: Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, civil, and structural engineers to coordinate the design and integration of various systems within the power plant. Review and incorporate their design inputs to ensure compatibility and functionality.
  • Cost Estimation and Budget Management: Collaborate with cost estimators to determine the budget and cost estimates for power plant projects. Provide input on equipment costs, material requirements, labor, and other related expenses.
  • Documentation and Technical Reports: Prepare detailed design documentation, including drawings, specifications, technical reports, and equipment datasheets. Ensure accuracy and clarity in the documentation to facilitate construction, procurement, and regulatory compliance.
  • Review and Evaluation: Review supplier proposals, vendor drawings, and technical specifications to ensure compliance with design requirements. Evaluate bids and make recommendations for equipment selection and procurement.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate effectively with project teams, clients, suppliers, and contractors to facilitate the design and construction process. Communicate design intent, technical information, and project progress to stakeholders in a clear and professional manner. - Other tasks assigned by HgP.

Requirements:

  • Preferred Secret Clearance but not required.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Energy Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional engineering licensure (PE) is preferred.
  • Proven experience in power plant design, demonstrating a track record of successful power generation projects.
  • Strong knowledge of power plant systems, equipment, and technologies.
  • Familiarity with industry codes and standards, such as ASME, IEEE, and NFPA.
  • Solid understanding of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, heat transfer, and electrical systems.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to address technical challenges and optimize design solutions.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills to work in multidisciplinary teams and engage with stakeholders.
  • Project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Understanding of environmental regulations, sustainability principles, and renewable energy technologies is a plus.
  • Professionalism and adherence to ethical standards in engineering practice.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry heavy cabling equipment and work in confined spaces.
