Commercial Manager - Utilities

We have a rare and newly created opportunity for a Commercial Manager to join our trans-tasman Performance, Commercial & Risk team. This role is unique and will give the successful appointment exposure to the full breadth of the Downer Utilities business, with no two days being the same. Reporting directly to the Commercial Manager -ANZ Operations, this role will work across all Utilities streams including Telco & Metering Services, Water Services, Energy and Power Projects.

This role will be based at New Zealand/Auckland head office in Wiri, Auckland.

  • Some key responsibilities include. _
  • Support the review of all commercial (and input to technical) risks associated with the preparation of bids to ensure that such risks are adequately identified, assessed, and actioned by the bid teams.
  • Utilise a collaborative and strategic approach to providing detailed commercial advice for tenders, contract delivery issues, subcontractors etc. and remain available for escalations where required.
  • Ensure contract management and project outcomes through program management, cost management, reporting, and contract validations (disputes, extensions, performance and resolution) whilst complying to The Downer Standard.

This role would suit an experienced Commercial Manager seeking to expand their horizons across a variety of projects and portfolios within Utilities. Key minimum requirements are as follows:

  • Hold a tertiary qualification in commerce, business, law, engineering, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in the construction industry complimented by an understanding of the Utilities industry.
  • A meticulous and tenacious approach to your work with the ability to tackle obstacles with a positive and determined mindset.
  • Demonstrate a high level of verbal and written communication skills whilst liaising with a wide variety of stakeholders such as external clients, suppliers, contractors, and peers.
  • A proven ability to prioritise effectively and work under pressure with mínimal supervision.
