About the role
We are more than an organisation and we’re a whanau that believes in the transformation power of education. Our mission is simple, yet powerful: to provide Literacy and Numeracy Support Services (LNSS) within the prison environment, giving individuals the tools, they need to reimagine their future and step into a world to further their education.

We are on the lookout for an extraordinary Kaiako to join us on a casual basis, assisting us with relieving at the *Tongariro Prison. *Our relivers are a vital role within our service by upholding continuity in delivery during the absence of our permanent Kaiako, preventing class cancellations and ensuring learner satisfaction remains uncompromised.
We are seeking relievers that are:
- Capable of stepping in for our Kaiako and will deliver our Literacy and Numeracy services.
- Experienced and adaptable to seamlessly integrate into our programme, using Individual L Plans (ILP) and readily available teaching and study materials.
- Fully compliant with regulatory standards and requirements, including those set forth by the Department of Corrections.
The hourly rate for this position ranges from $29.15 to $32.27, based on qualifications and experience.
About you
To truly excel in this role, we’re looking for someone who embodies the essence of what we do. We are seeking an individual who excels at establishing and nurturing strong relationships with various stakeholders, including Ara Poutama Aotearoa/Department of Corrections kaimahi, tertiary providers delivering educational programs within prisons and relevant external groups within the region. To succeed in this capacity, we are looking for someone who has the following:
- Be an on-call reliver Monday to Friday.
- Be comfortable working in a Correctional Facility.
- National Certificate in Adult Literacy and Numeracy Education (Vocational) - Level 5.
- Certificate in Te Reo Māori or Tikanga Level 2/4 or equivalent knowledge.
- A formal adult learning and training qualification(s) would be advantageous.
- Have a minimum of 2 years’ experience successfully delivering Literacy and Numeracy training to at risk or second chance learners.
- A full NZ drivers license.
- Due to the nature of the position, a stringent police check in mandatory to ensure access to Ara Poutama Aotearoa/Department of Corrections facilities.
