About the role

This is an exciting and rare opportunity to join the New Zealand Blood Service (NZBS) as a Transfusion Medicine Specialist (TMS). You will join our highly regarded team of experienced specialists who provide transfusion advice and support for clinical teams across the country. This role will be based in our largest blood centre in Auckland (although a base in one of our Regional Blood Centres in Hamilton, Palmerston North, Wellington, Christchurch or Dunedin may also be an option). You will be encouraged to develop expertise that will enable you to offer clinical leadership to one of our specialist services.

As part of the Clinical Services team, led by the Chief Medical Officer, you will deliver a high-quality transfusion medicine service to the NZBS Centre and the regional hospitals. The Auckland region includes three large hospitals, one of which is New Zealand's largest teaching hospital, which provide a full range of tertiary services and as well as opportunities to contribute to clinical education and research. You will be part of the local TMS team, support supervision of the rotating haematology registrars and work closely with our Transfusion Nurse Specialists and blood bank teams.

Salary starting from $170,369 - $250,560 depending on skills, registration, and experience.

The Location

The NZBS Auckland Centre provides blood and plasma processing, testing and specialist services for the North Island as well as being one of our largest donation centres. The service includes an active clinical apheresis unit, stem-cell processing and a therapeutic venesection programme. NZBS national services based in Auckland include, Organ Donation New Zealand, the New Zealand Transplantation and Immunogenetics Laboratory, the national Transfusion Reference Laboratory and the New Zealand Bone Marrow Donor Registry.
