Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity
The National Public Health Service (NPHS) within Te Whatu Ora, work towards Pae Ora (healthy futures) for all by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, prevention, protection, and population-level intervention. We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored.
We have the opportunity available to join our Health Promotion team as Group Manager Whiti Ora. This permanent, full-time role leads a team that develops comprehensive health promotion social marketing, communications and data and digital strategies and approaches that are innovative and bold health. You will provide leadership and a focus align to Te Pae Ora, to ensure that social marketing, communications and health education resources are fit for purpose and align with the aspiration of whānau.
As a member of the Leadership team, you will contribute to shaping the culture of Health Promotion, National Public Health Service - including driving the vision and expected behaviours of the organisation.

An experienced leader who is able to think, plan and act strategically to connect with and inspire people to build a highly motivated and engaged workforce. You demonstrate inclusive leadership and management skills able to maximise the quality and contributions of individuals and teams to drive outcomes.
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience
- A relevant tertiary qualification, preferably in communication and social marketing
- Relevant qualification in business and/or health related areas, or comparable/extensive experience working at a senior leadership level
- A strong background in senior government and/or health sector programme management roles with the ability to look at the wider strategy
- Solid understanding of financial management, including budgeting, forecasting and cost management
- Able to monitor and analyse performance to ensure the quality of work, identify areas of improvement, problem solve, and make sound decisions to achieve goals
- Proven experience in managing and developing a team of people together with an understanding of strategy and policy development
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, as well as demonstrated experience in developing and managing relationships with a wide range of key stakeholders including Board members and Ministers
