The Irish Heart Foundation is a community of people who fight to protect the cardiovascular health of everyone in Ireland. Our team currently is approx. 75 employees and up to 100 volunteers working towards the Foundation’s vision of a future where no hearts are broken by preventable heart disease.
The Role
Key responsibilities
- In collaboration with the head of department and the health promotion team, identify and explore novel opportunities to promote physical activity in line with the Irish Heart Foundation’s organisational strategy.
- Develop physical activity content, programmes, and resources. Working within various settings to include the community and workplace, liaising with key national stakeholders.
- Provide expert input into the development and delivery of impactful fundraising activity challenges in corporate and community settings.
- Design, deliver and evaluate practical physical activity training, workshops and talks.
- Provide support to health promotion campaigns including research, content creation, dissemination and evaluation.
- Maintain the existing network of Slí na Sláinte community, workplace and school walking routes, conducting maintenance audits of routes on request and facilitating the upgrade of routes as needed. Develop selected new walking routes as required.
- Work collaboratively with advocacy and patient support colleagues to identify synergies and to support delivery of organisational objectives.
Education and Experience
- 3rd level degree in a relevant field e.g. Health Promotion, Population Health, Sports/Exercise Science or allied health discipline
- Minimum 2 years’ demonstrable experience in health promotion programme delivery
- Fitness instructor qualification is desirable.
Skills and experience required (E=essential; D=desirable)
- Understanding of health promotion, particularly in community and workplace settings. (E)
- Knowledge and experience of working with underserved communities. (D)
- Experience in designing health promotion content in multiple formats (E)
- Experience in facilitating groups and delivery of health promotion programmes/training in workplace and/or community settings (E)
- A passion for and practical knowledge of user-centred approaches or co-creation approaches to health promotion. (E)
- Knowledge of health behaviour change models and techniques and how they can be applied effectively. (E)
- Ability to build rapport, to listen and have empathy and find opportunities to support stakeholders as they arise. (E)
- Demonstratable experience of creative approaches to health promotion. (D)
- Understanding of health literacy. (D)
- Understanding and knowledge of health inequalities or community development. (D)
- Digital proficiency including MS office suite and CRM database (E)
- Strong skills in CANVA design (D) or similar and PowerPoint essential. (E)
- Ability to bring digitally innovative approaches to your chosen field (D)
- Strong communication (verbal and written), presentation and interpersonal skills. (E)
- A self-motivated person with strong administration, project management and time management skills with an ability to prioritise workload, plan and work to multiple deadlines in a demanding environment. (E)
- Ability to represent the Irish Heart Foundation in a professional manner at all times. (E)
- Membership of the Health Promotion Practitioners’ register and the Association for Health Promotion Ireland. (D)
