The Financial Crime function is a Second line of defense function that includes ”Risk Stewards” who are independent of the commercial risk-taking activities undertaken by the Group’s businesses (also referred to as “the First LOD” or “FLOD”). The FC Function also operates a set of critical controls on behalf of the FLOD by harnessing intelligence, analytics, technology, detection and investigation. The Risk Stewards are responsible for reviewing and challenging all the activities of the FLOD to ensure that, as “Risk Owners”, they effectively manage the FC risk inherent in, or arising from, the conduct of their activities and for which they are responsible. FC risk is a non-financial risk that includes fraud, money laundering, bribery and corruption, sanctions violations, terrorist financing, proliferation financing, export control violations and tax evasion. The FC function operates in accordance with HSBC Group’s Risk Management Framework.

Sanctions roles are responsible for ensuring HSBC's compliance with trade, economic and/or financial sanctions administered by the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control, United Nations, European Union and HM Treasury’s Financial Sanctions, protecting the organisation from financial crime.

  • The role holder is responsible for the completion of Sanctions investigation activities within the Global Sanctions Alert Adjudications team.
  • The role holder will investigate Level 3 Sanctions alerts for payment / trade / securities. Their role is to determine whether the alert is a True Match or a False Positive by following the L3 CoE Transaction Alert Adjudication Procedures. Alert adjudication must be completed within agreed deadlines.
  • The role holder is responsible for the accurate recording of all decisions taken and escalation of all True Matches to the relevant Country Sanctions Officer / Advisory function.
  • The role holder is responsible for accurate and timely recording of information required to produce ongoing Operational and Strategic MI.
  • The nature of the role requires close working contact with colleagues across FC Function and interaction with others across the group
  • Provides support in managing Sanctions risk.
  • Supports businesses and functions to address any actual and potential Sanctions compliance issues
  • The role holder will ensure the fair treatment of our customers is at the heart of everything we do, both personally and as an organisation.
    Requirements
  • Risk professional with experience in one or more risk compliance roles, to include Sanctions experience
  • Knowledge of SWIFT / ISO messages (preferred but non-mandatory)
  • Knowledge of banking products and services including global trade instruments
  • An understanding of the different types of corporate structures
  • Experience within the financial services industry
  • Lateral thinker with an ability to interpret and solve complex issues
  • High level of English language skills
  • Excellent communicator with strong inter-personal and influencing skills
  • Ability to adapt to change and provide input where necessary
