Sanctions roles are responsible for ensuring HSBC's compliance with trade, economic and/or financial sanctions administered by the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control, United Nations, European Union and HM Treasury’s Financial Sanctions, protecting the organisation from financial crime.
This will involve partnering businesses, developing and implementing strategies, processes, controls and policies and ensuring appropriate training and communications are delivered to HSBC employees. The role holder is responsible to manage a team of Sanctions CoE Adjudicators within the Sanctions Payment Alert Adjudication team.
Role holders will carry out activities that will include:
- Management responsibility for a team of professionals, including performance, quality of adjudication and people development.
- Understand functional risks within own functional area and monitor team adherence to policies.
- Continuously learn and up-skill to be able to keep pace with changing financial regulatory environment, legal requirements in specific countries / regions. A good understanding of the wider impact of non-compliance to the legal and regulatory requirements.
- Supports and embeds change initiatives, identifying and developing new or improved delivery mechanisms
Management of Risk
- The role holder will continually reassess the operational risks associated with the role and inherent in the business, taking account of changing FC threats, geopolitical, economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructuring, and the impact of new technology.
- Provides support in managing Sanctions risk and controls.
- Supports businesses and functions to address and actual and potential training gaps
- The role holder will ensure the fair treatment of our customers is at the heart of everything we do, both personally and as an organisation.
- Observation of Internal Controls
- The role holder will also adhere to and be able to demonstrate adherence to internal controls. This will be achieved by adherence to all relevant procedures, keeping appropriate records and where appropriate, through the timely implementation of internal and external audit points,
- Address any issues raised by external regulators. Provide effective support to Head of Sanctions CoE in the response to adverse compliance metrics, including unsatisfactory FCC reviews and Audit reports.
Requirements - Risk professional with experience in one or more risk compliance roles, to include Sanctions experience
- Knowledge of banking products and services including global trade instruments
- Knowledge of payment processing, SWIFT / ISO messages and Sanctions (preferred not mandatory)
- Ability to effectively lead, coach and motivate staff.
- Experience within the financial services industry
- High level of English language skills
- Strong relationship management skills with the ability to manage & engage multiple stakeholders, meet their expectations, negotiate in situations of conflicting interests and influence key decision makers in a positive manner.
- Excellent collaboration, communication and inter-personal skills
- Experience of effectively dealing and communicating with Senior Management
- Ability to assist in the development efficient and effective solutions to complex operational issues
- Ability to prioritise conflicting demands and problem solve in a dynamic environment
