Principal Objective: A brief summary of the responsibilities of the position

The Principal Project Engineer -Wet Utilities provides professional support for the planning and design of wet utilities (stormwater, potable, sewer, and irrigation) to ensure that distribution systems have adequate capacity for services required in both short term and long term scenarios. Particular emphasis on promoting and maintaining the technical adequacy, uniformity, and quality of the project designs in conformance with approved standards and codes, and project requirements.

Major Activities Performed: List the major job function(s) of the position.

  • Reviews A/E consultant design drawings, reports, specifications, calculations, and computer model submittals, and coordinates with the work of other disciplines.
  • Prepares written summary of review comments in Engineering Review Comments (ERC) sheets.
  • Confirms design comments from previous stage submissions have been correctly addressed and closed out.
  • Provides technical guidance to personnel within the Section.
  • Provides technical advice to other RC and SAPL Departments.
  • Represents the Section at the project and inter-sectional meetings, as appropriate.
  • Prepares/Reviews Request for Proposal (RFP) and Scope of Work (SOW) documents with design concepts.
  • Provides technical assistance during pre-bid conferences, proposal evaluations, and post-award or other contract conferences.
  • Reviews vendor/ shop drawings, and construction materials submittals.
  • Performs field inspections and provides professional field support as necessary during construction phases.
  • Prepares interface layouts and conflicts solutions.
  • Prepares / Reviews man-hour estimates for design fee proposals.
  • Prepares technical correspondence, reports, and studies.
  • Participation as a mentor in a training program for recent Saudi university fresh graduates.

Experience and Qualifications: List the background experience required for the position, number of years’ experience, in what fields. Describe the desirable academic background.

  • Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering from a Western University with min 12 years’ experience.
  • Design experience in earthworks grading, stormwater drainage, and underground wet utility systems for the infrastructure of residential, commercial, and industrial areas is essential.
  • Professional registration in the appropriate discipline is desirable.
  • The ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written English is essential.
  • A proven record of technical and administrative ability in design management.
  • Must be knowledgeable with the standards of civil work.
  • Conversant and has working knowledge of Industry Standard software in CE design. Experience of Autodesk Civil 3D and OpenFlows (SewerGEMS / WaterGEMS), or any similar, is essential. Experience with BIM and utility clash detection is highly desirable.
