Apprenticeship summary:
To construct, repair, and maintain structures made from bricks, blocks, and other masonry materials. The role involves interpreting plans, setting out, laying bricks to specific patterns, and ensuring the structural integrity and finish of walls and other features.
Requirements and prospects:Desired skills*
- Assist with setting out jobs and preparing the work area.
- Lay bricks, blocks, and other materials using appropriate tools and techniques.
- Interpret technical drawings and plans to ensure accurate construction.
- Operate hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Maintain tools and equipment and keep the work area clean and tidy.
- Work safely on scaffolding and at heights, following site safety procedures.
- Adhere to Health & Safety regulations and site-specific protocols.
- Work effectively as part of a team and take direction from supervisors and experienced tradespeople.
Personal qualities
- A genuine interest in construction and bricklaying.
- Good practical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to follow instructions
- Basic understanding of health and safety.
- Punctual, reliable, and motivated to learn.
Desired qualifications
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at grade 3/D or above (Level 1). If not already achieved, you will be supported to complete Functional Skills Level 2 in English and Maths during the apprenticeship.
Future prospects
Upon successful completion, apprentices may progress to:
- A Level 3 qualification (e.g., Advanced Bricklaying, Site Supervision).
- Full-time employment as a qualified bricklayer.
