This position reports to the Provost /Associate Provost and is responsible to lead the Office of Accessibility Services which strives to provide wholistic support for Bryant students with disabilities and educate the campus community about disability through information sharing and purposeful dialogue. The Director oversees all OAS services, including student accommodation requests and implementation and Academic Testing Center services.

Principal Accountabilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Coordinates services for registered students with the Office of Accessibility Services, ensuring accessibility and equity throughout campus and the compliance of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as amended, and section 504 of the Rehabilitation ACT of 1973.
  • Supervises staff in the Office of Accessibility Services, including the Student Accessibility Specialist and Academic Testing Center Program Administrator. Meets regularly with staff and opens opportunities for professional development.
  • Assists the Bryant University ADA Compliance Officer to enforce campus policies and procedures related to disability compliance.
  • Coordinates all services within the Office of Accessibility Services, including the Academic Testing Center.
  • Engages with students in an interactive and ongoing process by reviewing disability documentation and student self-report. Determines reasonable accommodations and learning support needs for all OAS-registered students, notifies relevant faculty, and monitors implementation of accommodations.
  • Drives marketing, with an emphasis on visibility and availability for prospective and enrolled students, and staff and faculty constituents. This includes participation and information sharing during New Student Orientation, Open Houses, 4Mile, Faculty Orientation, Day of Understanding, etc.
  • Designs and delivers general and department-specific training for faculty and staff to enhance understanding of students with disabilities and OAS services.
  • Advises the Bryant Zeta Kappa chapter of the Delta Alpha Pi International Honor Society for students with disabilities.
  • Builds leadership opportunities for students with disabilities through student employment and events, with the goal of lifting student voices.
  • Manages the ongoing assessment of OAS and ATC services and shares aggregate data with campus constituents.
  • Coordinates the Nader Alexander Salem Annual Forum
  • Maintains active membership in relevant professional organizations to gain insight into current trends and challenges in the field of disability services in higher education.
  • Maintains and manages individual confidential student information in line with FERPA regulations.
  • Collaborates with staff in other offices, including Undergraduate Advising, ACE and the Writing Center, the Graduate and PA Programs, Counseling, Health Services, Residence Life, and the AMICA Center.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Education & Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Psychology, Special Education, Rehabilitation Counseling, Social Work, Higher Education Administration, or related field; Ph.D. in Counseling, Special Education, or Higher Education Administration preferred.
  • 5+ years progressively responsible experience working directly with students with disabilities in a higher education setting
  • Experience reading and interpreting psychiatric, medical, and educational documentation.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Suite and Assistive Technology (e.g. Screen readers, note taking, text to speech, and speech to text programs).
  • This position collaborates with other University Departments and Divisions on a regular basis.
  • Problems are varied, requiring analysis or interpretation of the situation, knowledge and skills, and general precedents and practices.
  • Familiarity with disability services operational systems such as Clockwork, AIM or Accommodate

  • Standard office environment; some evening and weekend hours required.
