Job Overview
Due to the continued growth of The Little Magpies Nursery, we are expanding our team and are looking to appoint a Senior Nursery Practitioner to support our room teams and leadership team.
This role is ideal for an experienced practitioner who is ready to take the next step in their career, or an existing senior practitioner looking for a supportive, well-led setting where staff wellbeing and quality care truly matter.
About the Role
As a Senior Nursery Practitioner, you will play a key role in supporting the daily running of the nursery while continuing to work directly with children. You will act as a positive role model for staff, support high-quality practice across the rooms, and help ensure consistent, child-centred care in line with the EYFS.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead by example, delivering high-quality care and education
- Support room staff with planning, observations, and daily practice
- Act as a role model for EYFS, safeguarding, and professional standards
- Support children’s learning, development, and emotional wellbeing
- Build strong relationships with children, families, and colleagues
- Support new staff and students through mentoring and induction
- Help maintain a safe, organised, and inspiring learning environment
- Work closely with management to ensure smooth daily operations
- Uphold all safeguarding, health, and safety policies
Requirements:
Essential:
- Level 3 qualification in Early Years or above
- Strong knowledge and practical understanding of the EYFS
- Previous experience working in a nursery or childcare setting
- Confidence supporting and guiding other staff members
- A calm, professional, and nurturing leadership style
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Enhanced DBS check (required before starting)
Desirable:
- Previous senior, room leader, or mentoring experience
- Paediatric First Aid (or willingness to train)
