Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Bar Manager to lead the day-to-day operation of our traditional Irish pub. This role is ideal for someone who understands the heart of a great pub: warm hospitality, quality drink, strong community spirit, and a well-run bar. The Bar Manager will be responsible for maintaining high standards of service, managing staff, overseeing stock, and ensuring every guest feels welcome.
Key Responsibilities
Bar Operations
- Oversee daily bar operations, ensuring smooth, efficient service
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness, presentation, and organisation behind the bar
- Manage drink operations, including keg handling, line cleaning, and quality control
- Ensure consistent quality of all drinks, with particular care for draught products
Staff Leadership
- Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise bar staff
- Lead by example during busy service periods
- Foster a positive, respectful, and team-focused working environment
- Support staff development
Customer Experience
- Handle customer feedback and resolve issues professionally
- Build rapport with regulars while creating a welcoming atmosphere for new guests
Stock & Financial Control
- Manage stock ordering, rotation, and inventory control
- Minimise waste and monitor pour costs
- Assist with pricing, margins, and weekly bar reports
- Ensure compliance with licensing laws and responsible service of alcohol
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure adherence to health & safety, hygiene, and licensing regulations
- Maintain accurate records as required by law and company policy
Skills & Experience Required
- Proven experience managing people, suppliers and costs
- Experience managing staff and rotas
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
- Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities
- A hands-on approach and willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
Desirable Qualities
- Calm under pressure with a positive attitude
- Attention to detail and pride in delivering quality
- Knowledge of live music or events management is an advantage
