Te kōwhiringa | The Opportunity
We have an opportunity for a Trainee Line Mechanic (Transmission)to join Downer’s team based in Taupō.
In this role, you’ll work alongside experienced Line Mechanics and Supervisors, learning the skills required to support the construction, maintenance and fault diagnosis/rectification of transmission network equipment and installations. You’ll complete required training and study towards registration and a practising certificate, while gaining valuable hands-on experience in the field.
You’ll be supported through structured development, additional training as agreed, and exposure to a variety of work activities. Safety is central to everything we do, and you’ll play an active role in promoting Zero Harm, working safely, and contributing positively to a strong team culture.

You’re motivated, reliable and keen to learn. You enjoy working as part of a team, take safety seriously, and are committed to developing your skills and knowledge over time.
You will bring:
- Level 1 (School Certificate) passes in English and Maths
- Current Class 1 driver’s licence (minimum restricted) with a clean driving record
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- A positive attitude, strong work ethic and willingness to learn
Desirable:
- An interest in the electrical industry or completion of a pre-trades course
- Physical fitness and the ability to perform manual work in outdoor and challenging conditions
