Overview
The Pumping Station Attendant is responsible for the safe, efficient and reliable operation of the Boards pumping station facilities. This includes routine monitoring, basic maintenance, fault reporting, housekeeping and ensuring compliance with health, safety, welfare and environmental standards. You would be expected to live on site in the Boards accommodation or live within 15 miles of Lade Bank Pumping Station at New Leake ( PE22 8JF)

Duties

  • To monitor pumping station equipment, controls and instrumentation to ensure correct operations.
  • To start, stop and adjust pumps and associated equipment as instructed.
  • To keep operational records and data, readings and inspection logs or digital systems up to date.
  • To respond to alarms, breakdowns or emergency situations in accordance to procedures.
  • To carry and pumping operations at Lade Bank Pumping Station. In wet times this will include 12 hour day or night shifts, weekends and bank holidays.
  • Report any defects or problems with pumping equipment to the Operations Manager or Chief Engineer as soon as they arise.
  • Share duties with other senior Pumping Attendants in respect to out of hours/weekend checks or operations at the station (Payment included in basic pay).
  • Work with external contractors working on the Boards site where required.

Requirements:

  • Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical systems and equipment, previous experience desirable but not essential.
  • Ability to work independently and follow directions.
  • Flexibility to work some overtime and weekends.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Good attention to details and accuracy.
  • Physical stamina to work prolonged hours in all weathers, in an industrial environment.
  • Desire to work overtime in unsociable hours during wet weather conditions (12 hour shifts).
  • Good observation skills.
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills for record keeping.
  • Ability to operate or learn to operate tractors and telehandlers.
  • Emergency 1st Aid trained ( Training can be provided).
  • Valid UK driving licence (Essential).

This role is suitable for individuals who enjoy working indoors and outdoors in all weathers. The working environment can be in damp, noisy and confined spaces, depending on the task. there will be exposure to water, chemicals and light industrial equipment. Shift work, standby and call-outs will be required during wet weather conditions. In wet weather conditions, you will be expected to operate the pumping equipment, (this will not be optional), you may also be asked to cancel any booked leave at short notice. Standby rota and general weekend cover is also expected.

Pay: £29,844.00-£35,000.00 per year
