We're making zero carbon happen

We're OVO Group, a big family of companies united by a single vision: to get to zero carbon, fast.

We call this Plan Zero - and it shows how we'll be fighting the climate crisis and transforming the way people use energy over the next decade. To do this, we need the sharpest minds. Are you up for the challenge?

Do great green things with OVO Energy

So much has changed since we launched in 2009. Our goal remains the same though: make energy cheaper, greener, and simpler. Just as it was on day one.

Everyone belongs at OVO

Our aim is to build a diverse and inclusive movement: teams of brilliant people, with unique talents, skills, passions, and experiences.

We encourage everyone to join us, whatever your gender identity, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, life experience, or background. So please come as you are - we can't wait to meet you.

Where in the world of OVO will I be working?

You will be creating engaging digital copy for OVO Energy products from energy plans, devices and cover for the home to the leasing and charging of electric vehicles. This role sits alongside UI designers and user researchers, as well as other content designers. You'll report into the Content Design Lead, but day-to-day you'll be working with mixed teams of specialists made up of people from across the wider Product and Tech team.

What will I be doing?

As a writer, you'll be inventive, original, and warm. You'll be an expert in distilling incredibly complex topics into just a few words. Good spelling and a decent knowledge of grammar are essential. But it's your ability to think both creatively and strategically that will set you apart. You'll know when to dial things up and when to tone things down. And, over time, through working with our researchers, product owners, analysts, and marketers, you'll understand our members and be aware of their needs.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Working closely with marketing, product, and UX specialists to shape our member journeys from end to end - across multiple channels, but particularly focussing on our app and website experiences
  • Supporting the Content Design team, brand managers, strategists, and researchers in delivering message hierarchies for new and existing products - making our products compelling, while setting us apart from our competitors
  • Working closely with product managers and developers to write engaging and precise copy (and microcopy) in line with our tone of voice guide
  • Helping our teams put OVO members first - by making sure every piece of communication offers our members real value
  • Helping to promote Content Design best practice around the business in collaboration
  • Collaborating with designers and researchers to share communication best practices and research findings
  • Supporting product teams in reviewing and responding to member feedback in the app and online - to help get us closer to identifying our members' needs
  • Using member feedback and research findings to adapt our content and improve the OVO experience for our members

Is this the job for me?

As well as having a way with words and a flair for original thinking, you'll be empathetic about people using our digital products regardless of their ability, eager to find ways to maintain that empathy across diverse digital touchpoints, and always looking to create those elusive "moments of joy" that can bring a brand to life. And you might even have some knowledge about the role energy can play in fighting the climate crisis and protecting our planet.

On top of all that, you'll have a curious mind, and a brilliant eye for detail. You'll want to understand the language our members use so that you can communicate as clearly and empathetically as possible. And you'll feel right at home working closely with researchers and UI designers to measure and test our product content as you go - helping solve real-life problems for OVO members.

Ideally you will have:

  • Impeccable spelling and good knowledge of grammar
  • Ability to write to our tone of voice and style guides
  • Strong background in writing short and long copy, as well as microcopy
  • Experience following Agile (Scrum or Kanban) practices, which means you'll be comfortable working closely with design and research peers and across the wider Product and Tech teams
  • Experience using content management tools and following content management workflows
  • Ability to think both creatively and strategically
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • A true team player, you'll be happy working at speed and collaborating with teams around the business
  • You'll also be comfortable using member feedback, insights from search keyword data, and general research findings to shape your content creation and stories
