Library Officer

City of Westminster Council-Westminster, Reino Unido

About Us:
Our vision at Westminster City Council (WCC) is very clear - we want to create a City for All, in which every local resident, business and visitor is able to thrive. This is an opinion that is also held by our friends at the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea (RBKC), so we have formulated a number of high-performing bi-borough services. With the combined resources and expertise that exists within both councils, these services enable us to put our combined population at the heart of every decision, driving the best possible value for money.

Our highly valued Library Service is the perfect example of how shared services can better cater to the varied needs of a community that straddles areas ranging from iconic neighbourhoods such as Covent Garden through to less affluent areas such as Latimer Road. Bringing together a number of libraries across the two boroughs, we are focussed on creating inspirational and safe spaces in which our residents can learn, read and connect - and with you in our team, we will achieve even more.

The Role:
We currently have a variety of opportunities available in our libraries. While you will be primarily based at one of these libraries, you will be asked to support other sites in delivering great customer service, and you will be happy to work evenings and weekends.

Please refer to the Job Description for more information.

About You:
As you will be expected to perform a wide range of duties such as processing memberships, opening and closing the library, managing stock and ordering supplies, this role would be well suited to proactive individuals who have a can-do attitude. Capable of multi-tasking, you will be able to deliver a high-quality customer service, with the capacity to embrace change and react quickly to customer needs. It is essential that you have good IT skills including an awareness of social media, and you will enjoy sharing knowledge with others.
With the flexibility to take on new challenges and initiatives, you will be keen to learn - and to share your love of learning. In fact, it is this enthusiasm and passion for reading that defines every one of our friendly colleagues, so if you have exceptional verbal and written communication skills, and you want to help members of our community reach their full potential, then you will be a welcome addition to our team.

What We Offer:
Westminster is an amazing place. There are 250,000 diverse residents, over 50,000 vibrant and vital businesses and three-quarters-of-a-million people working here every day. Our mission is to create a city for all. We’re an organisation that wants the very best for our residents: a supportive and safe environment, the chance to grow and learn throughout their lives, to build fantastic careers in world-leading industries, to have access to high-quality, affordable housing and to retire into the community with dignity and pride.

We want Westminster to be a place where you can make the most of your talents and thrive as an individual. That’s why we’re proud to have won Best Health & Wellbeing Initiative in the 2020/21 Business Culture Awards. By being the best you can be, you’ll help us adapt to the changing needs of our organisation and communities.

At Westminster City Council, we are passionate about our aim to be an inclusive workplace for all that reflects the communities we serve, and we believe everyone is valued. We particularly welcome applicants from underrepresented backgrounds, including B.A.M.E (Black, Asian and Multiple Ethnic backgrounds), LGBTQ+ and those with hidden or visible disabilities. We’re committed to ensuring all our staff - regardless of gender, age, religion, sexuality, ethnicity or disability - can succeed. We value diversity and appreciate that people work in different ways. So, as a Timewise employer we work to provide flexible working arrangements and an empowering environment that enables you to be your best, that is the Westminster Way.
