Victim Services Crisis Responder

  • Assist police, fire and ambulance at the scene of a crime or tragedy
  • Provide emotional support to someone whose family member has been hurt or killed in an accident
  • Help secure food, clothing and shelter for a family after their house has burnt down
  • Help a victim navigate supports and resources
  • Discuss safety planning with a victim of abuse
  • Provide a follow up at the request of police or emergency services to see how someone is coping following a traumatic event.

BENCHMARK HIRING CRITERIA

  • Diploma in related human / social service field or equivalent and 1 year of directly related experience
  • Crisis intervention skills. Knowledge of community supports for crime related and tragic circumstance occurrences
  • Ability to work effectively in crisis situations
  • Demonstrate effective verbal, written, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent advocacy skills
  • Ability to interact with diverse groups of people
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of all issues surrounding calls for service
  • Access to a vehicle
