Housekeeping Manager

The *Valhalla Hotel & Conference Centre * is currently recruiting for a Housekeeping Manager. The Housekeeping Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operation of the Housekeeping Department. They will maintain high quality standards for cleanliness throughout the property related to guest rooms and public areas to ensure the highest level of guest satisfaction. They are responsible in directing a smooth, efficient, cost-effective operation of the housekeeping department; you maintain the inspection system and ensure maximum productivity on daily basis. While some administrative work is required, a significant amount of this position’s time will be spent in “on the floors” in the hotels in the laundry rooms; ensuring cleanliness standards adherence, maximizing productivity and developing the team. They will work closely with the Area General Manager to develop and implement strategies and plans to achieve business goals while guiding the Housekeeping team to ensure an exceptional experience for guests.

Duties and Responsibilities

_Reporting to the General Manager, the Housekeeping Manager will: _

  • Develop a Housekeeping operating strategy that is aligned with the property/brand’s business strategy;
  • Direct the daily activities of the department, plan and organize work, communicate goals and schedule team members to ensure proper coverage;
  • Plans and assigns work assignments, schedules, gives training for newly recruited employees, audits and inspects housekeeping personal work assignment and requisition supplies.
  • A high level of oversight and management of linen and amenity inventories and controls.
  • Manage daily housekeeping operations including, assigning rooms, inspections, inventory counts, requisitioning supplies, shuttling supplies, laundry activities
  • Effectively manage the productivity of all housekeeping associates - Maintain expense level standards in both labour costs and direct expenses, responsible for the budget and budget control for the department
  • Responsible for cleanliness, orderliness and appearance of the Hotel.
  • Ensures that rooms are made as per company/brand standards.
  • Prepares the annual Housekeeping budget, and monitors progress throughout the year.
  • Maintains the lost-and-found department and is responsible for all lost-and-found items.
  • Maintains par stock of guest supplies, cleaning supplies, linen and uniforms
  • Organizes inventories with Accounting.
  • Develops and implements Housekeeping systems and procedures
  • Assists purchasing department in selecting suppliers for items related to Housekeeping
  • Resolves guest complaints in a timely manner and ensures immediate response to guest requests.
  • Prepare schedule, enter payroll and monitor staffing levels in conjunction with business levels and determined budgets
  • Conduct regular performance appraisals and performance management as necessary.
  • Organizes on-the job training and evaluates its effectiveness. -.
  • Inspects public areas and employee locker rooms daily.
  • Controls, organizes and administers the distribution of uniforms throughout the hotel and coordinates cleaning of same where applicable. Conducts a daily departmental briefing
  • Coordinates the preventive maintenance schedule of rooms and public area with maintenance department
  • Ensures that all team members comply with company safety policies, procedures and guidelines
  • Provides information and training as required in accordance with Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHIMIS), including use pf protective equipment.
  • Understand and comply with all health and safety rules, regulations and laws. Report unsafe acts or hazardous conditions to ensure department equipment is maintained and operated in a safe manner;
  • Ensure all COVID-19 Operating Protocols are followed and that the well-being of our guests and team members is always the priority;
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the General Manager and/or Silver Hotel Group.

Job Requirements

  • 3-5 year’s supervisory or management experience in hospitality or service industry, hotel housekeeping experience preferred.
  • Post secondary education in hospitality management an asset
  • Knowledge of cost analysis, fiscal management, and budgeting techniques.
  • Practical experience supervising a unionized workforce an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact in a team environment with several divisions/departments;
  • Excellent interpersonal and guest service skills;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential;
  • Computer literate in property operating systems such as Opera, Galaxy, Springer Miller, etc., as well as being proficient at using 2010 or newer versions of MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point), and work with electronic key systems such as Ving or SafLok;
  • Organized, results orientated, proven time management skills and ability to work under pressure;
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment-maintaining composure and object
