What you will do
*You will support youth (aged 13-18 years) in a variety of our youth programs such as recreational, wellness, sports, leadership, outreach, drop-in, and etc. You will also support outreach, events, relationship building and program expansion for youth in the community. You will do this by facilitating different youth programs, that promote youth skill development, build strong, positive and trusting relationships with youth, support them to meet their personal goals and meet them where they are at, to meet their changing needs.
You will support YMCA Youth Programs to promote physical, social and mental wellbeing, personal development, leadership skills, and more. You will encourage youth to discover their personal identity regardless of gender, ethnicity, socio economic status. You will help youth develop leadership skills such as communication, problem solving and teamwork. You will empower youth to explore personal talents to build confidence and self-esteem. You will facilitate connections to networks and opportunities that enable youth to discover their potential. You will promote participation in community activities and volunteerism to enhance civic engagement.
What you will bring
- Ideally, you will have experience working with youth (13-18 yrs.) from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. In addition, you will have experience facilitating programming and a strong understanding of healthy adolescent development. Post-secondary education in Child and Youth Work, Social Sciences, Recreation and Leisure or a related field, is an asset.
You will be an excellent communicator, with strong interpersonal and relationship building skills. You are committed to assisting youth develop new skills and have a demonstrated ability to work independently and achieve set goals. Adaptability, communication, initiative, supporting equity, diversity & inclusion, self-management and teamwork are key competencies you rely on in your day to day work.
