Responsibilities -

  • Attends Academic Council meetings; Principal for Professional Development and Innovation develops programs for Department Chair professional development.
  • Supports Departments’ annual reviews of curriculum and departmental goals and objectives.
  • Provides departments with resources to assist in curriculum and instructional improvement.
  • Leads implementation of academic aspects of School Improvement Plans as part of the Accreditation and continuous school improvement process.
  • Coordinates school-wide interdisciplinary curriculum development.
  • Ensures timely publication of annual Academic Catalog.
  • Supervises, evaluates, markets, and supports new academic offerings. Teacher Hiring,

Formation, and Evaluation:

  • Assists Principal in teacher hiring and Department Chair selection process.
  • Reviews Department Chairs’ evaluations of department members.
  • With other administrators, observes and evaluates classroom teachers.
  • Evaluates Department Chairs on biennial basis, beginning in first full year as Chair.

Scheduling:

  • Coordinates forecasting and scheduling of student courses.
  • Works with Registrar to create the Master Schedule.
  • Oversees the balancing of student and teacher schedules and facilitates drop/add process.
  • Oversees final examinations each semester, including distribution and management of exams. Student Reports/Grading:

  • Manages students on academic probation, and coordinates the tracking of student credits and progress toward graduation with the support of Registrar and counselors.

  • Works with Registrar to gather and distribute grade reports.
  • Arranges other appropriate avenues of communication among students, parents, teachers, counselors, and administrators to ensure students’ academic success.
    Other Areas of Responsibility:

  • Reviews academic transcripts and consults with Admissions Director and Learning Specialist on applicants to School (freshmen and transfers).

  • Serves as a member of the Board Academic committee and the Technology Committee, as well as other committees as directed by the Principal.
  • Oversees all academic department budgets.
  • Works with counselors to identify students in need of academic and mental health support.
  • Supervises process for reduction in student academic schedules due to mental or physical health issues, or as deemed necessary, in consultation with Principal.
  • Works with counselors to administer and report results of standardized tests
  • Manages the academic dishonesty/integrity process.
  • Attends Leadership Team meetings convened by the President.
  • Serves in significant leadership roles in Accreditation and Sponsorship Review processes.
  • Contributes to Principal’s Newsletter, website, and other school publications.
  • Approves the performance content and schedule for drama program productions and oversees the formulation and implementation of the Drama Department budget.
  • Collaborates with Principal for Student Life on Summer Session curriculum and recommendation letters from teachers for placement.
  • Works with Principal to oversee development of innovative curricular programs.
  • At discretion of the Principal, may teach one academic section in area of expertise.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Principal.
