The Opportunity
Our Mining Services division has a new opportunity for a Principal Tailings Closure Specialist, based in Brisbane. We are looking to strengthen our closure and tailings capacity by building a specialized team focused on the delivery of complex projects involving closure of TSFs for various commodities and mining companies. A key focus of this specialized team is to identify and design innovative closure solutions intended to set TSFs into a trajectory where operational failure modes can be progressively demonstrated to become non-credible.
This is a principal level, leadership position focused on building a new area of specialization within a thriving closure and tailings business. You will have a track record in delivering tailings and mine waste consulting services to the mining sector. This will include the identification of projects and providing cost effective, practical and technically defensible solutions to clients. It is essential to have an excellent understanding of current industry standards and guidelines associated to tailings management and closure.
- Technical directing of tailings closure design studies and related analyses including delivering best practice consulting services to clients in Australia and overseas;
- Providing recommendations to clients in the area of tailings and mine waste management for closure while maintaining effective client relationships to generate consulting business;
- Providing technical guidance and mentoring for staff in the regional team and reviewing their project work;
- Providing senior technical input to project teams and ensuring that appropriate technical standards are developed and maintained;
- Leadership of multi-disciplinary project teams on local, regional, and international consulting assignments;
- Project management, budgeting, and quality control for closure of tailings, mine waste, heap leach facilities and similar assignments;
- Technical direction of tailings closure design studies and related analyses;
- Liaising with specialists from the Mine Waste Group and other disciplines or offices within Golder;
- Delivering best practice consulting services to clients in Australia and overseas;
- Providing recommendations to clients in the area of tailings and mine waste management for closure;
- Maintaining effective client relationships and generate consulting business.
What we will love about you
- Bachelor degree in Civil/Mining Engineering or equivalent is essential and other relevant post graduate qualification in either business or relevant technical discipline will be advantageous;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing, presentations and client liaison;
- Previous consulting experience is an advantage with access to local industry knowledge and contacts;
- Ability to work independently and also within multi-disciplinary project teams;
- Demonstrable commitment and proactive approach to health and safety culture;
- Demonstrated commitment to providing high quality service to clients within budget and time constraints; and
- Interest in personal development and keeping abreast of world’s best practice.
