About the role

You will provide legal leadership and advice to key partners and their wider teams in relation to EPM.

Market Counsel has a high level of professionalism and integrity, with strong analytical, drafting and negotiating skills, in particular in the area of commercial contracts, consumer and marketing laws and regulations, competition law and data privacy.

You will need to have a commercial pragmatic approach; explain legal concepts in a clear and practical manner; work autonomously and take initiative; have excellent interpersonal, coaching and influencing skills; be able to flex their style to suit context; be flexible in their approach to supporting different priorities and be confident to lead engaging presentations and training sessions to diverse audiences.

Purpose of the Role and important Dimensions:
The Market Counsel EPM will support the achievement of the Eastern Europe Market growth strategy and Diageo’s Performance Ambition through providing creative, pragmatic and efficient legal support for long-term, sustainable success, employing commercial savvy, and lateral thinking world class risk management, and brilliant execution. This will include:

  • advising on commercial issues (e.g. RTM transformation, third party distributor agreements in former CIS states and in MENA, NRM initiatives, joint venture and minority shareholder arrangements, and key partner and supplier relationships;
  • advising on competition law, data privacy, EU, UK and US Sanctions and other regulatory matters and support on responding to investigations by local regulatory authorities in former CIS states and in MENA;
  • advising on legal and reputational issues on consumer and customer marketing activities, and innovation launches across EPM (in former CIS states) and in MENA. This will require a particular focus on governance and compliance risks (including Anti-Bribery and Corruption and Anti-Money Laundering) in MENA;
  • primary legal support of the Draft Cocktails project;
  • providing proactive leadership to address key business risks, manage issues to mitigate impact, support delivery of the critical Compliance agenda and embed practices which drive well-rounded performance to protect and maintain reputation including providing relevant Legal Compliance training across relevant teams in EPM (former CIS countries) and MENA, including regular refresher sessions;
  • supporting the Brand Protection agenda in EPM (former CIS states) and in MENA and supervise appropriate management of BP issues;
  • work closely with specialist global legal function teams (IP, Antitrust, Business Integrity, Brand Protection, Company Secretarial and Corporate Security for issues and initiatives relevant to EPM in CIS part and in MENA).

  • Reputation Management: Support the creation and embedding of great governance, effective compliance and risk management, providing proactive input to prevent and address key business risks, managing issues to mitigate impact.
  • Cost Management: Contribute to Productivity agenda. Ensure effective management of end-to-end legal spend, and managing variances to budget to deliver savings. Ensure all external legal budget and spend data are recorded on Busylamp and, in collaboration with Procurement, use appropriate levers to achieve savings.
  • People Growth: have a strong dedication to personal growth and capability building, aligned behind and accountable for business performance.

About you

  • Lawyer qualified and with relevant commercial legal practice experience gained in leading law firm or in-house.
