Role Overview

On-site position - Welland (Niagara), Ontario

BASIC PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Troubleshooting and maintenance of quality critical analytical equipment to support CYPURE and Fumigation. Support installation and commissioning of new lab equipment. Assist the Analytical Chemist in all activities to maintain and implement improvement initiatives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform all work safely and promote a behaviour-based safety culture
  • Troubleshooting and resolution of instrument issues in the Gases Lab to maintain operational readiness
  • Maintenance, validation and/or calibration of instrumentation to ensure that all quality standards are met
  • Support Analytical Chemist in planning, implementation and coordination of Gage R&R, MDL, Linear Stability, MSA, and other statistical studies as required.
  • Support safety and housekeeping initiatives in the Gases Lab
  • Installation, validation and commissioning of new QC lab equipment
  • Train and support Gases Laboratory Operating Technicians regarding technical and operational issues.
  • Facilitates and/or actively participates in continuous improvement projects including performing and/or coordinating associated lab work
  • Perform non-routine analysis as directed by the Quality Manager or Technical Manager (i.e. to investigate or resolve customer complaints, plant issues, etc.)
  • Write and update laboratory procedures/SOPs as required according to the Quality Management System
  • Provide support for internal and external audits of our ISO 9001 certification including resolution of any findings
  • Lead and/or support PHAs, PSSRs, MOCs, incident investigations, corrective actions and other items as required.

EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor of Science degree in related field (Chemistry, Biology, etc.) or min. 5 years of hands-on experience in maintenance and troubleshooting of complex analytical instrumentation
  • Experience in a chemical production plant is preferred
  • In-depth, hands on knowledge of and experience with chromatography techniques and instrumentation; experience in low level detection limits (ppb), complex separation requirements and highly reactive materials
  • Application of a detail oriented approach to all aspects of the role
  • Analytical mindset applied to the reporting and interpretation of data/results
  • Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills, working effectively with a diverse team
  • Effective communication (oral and written) with colleagues and management across various job functions
  • Proven ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and manage competing priorities effectively
