About the Library
In alignment with the ambitious vision and core aspirations of Transformation 2030, the University of Ottawa Library advances cutting edge research and supports transformative learning by connecting the uOttawa community to expertise, services, collections and technology in a welcoming and supportive environment.
The University of Ottawa Library is composed of 3 main libraries - the Morisset Library (Arts and Science), the Brian Dickson Law Library and the Health Sciences Library - in addition to a number of specialized research collections. It has approximately 150 employees, including 55 librarians, serving the students, faculty and employees of the University.
Position purpose:
This is a temporary position to support a special project (Collections Lifecycle Management Project), and will be focused on retrieval, transfer, linking and delinking of documents. The location will be at the library’s Annex (1100 Polytek St), but may also involve work at Morisset Library (65 University Private), as needed.
In the Library Annex (external location of the main campus), participate in the lending of materials requested by internal university users as well as the borrowing and lending of materials for local, national and international interlibrary loan (ILL) libraries.
Match materials transferred to the Annex to make them accessible to patrons and shelves items daily using an elevated cart in a safe manner.
In this role, your responsibilities will include:
Document Delivery/Interlibrary Loan (ILL): Searches and locates documents in the Library catalog or Integrated Library Management System (ILMS) to process, ship and track backlogs of requested materials to external libraries or internal University users. Scans and delivers items to internal users and external institutions in accordance with Canadian copyright law, as requested by the ILM system, ensuring complete delivery. Receive and process requested documents for our internal users while adding holds on their library record to automate receipt messages.
Customer Service: Act as a resource person for University, regional, national and international library users to answer questions regarding requests, policies, procedures and pricing for document delivery services.
Document Matching at the Annex: Assists in programming and printing barcodes for the matching of different areas to replace the barcodes in the MIS.
Participate in the matching of documents of all formats in order to update the existing records in the SIGB, to modify its location, to link and attach it to its new location and to make corrections as required in the SIGB.
Receiving at the Annex loading dock: Receive daily deliveries at the Annex loading dock and route the requested documents within the established time frame while distributing the received material to key people in a secure manner.
Project and Training: Maintain various statistics required for the network in relation to internal document delivery requests and ILL requests. Participate in other projects assigned by the supervisor and assist in the training of new staff.
