NATIONAL BRANDS LIMITED operates 5 manufacturing sites, offering world class manufacturing facilities in Isando (Johannesburg), Rosslyn (Pretoria), Westmead and Durban (KZN). It is home to some of the best-known South African tea, coffee and creamer brands, including our delicious range of much-loved savoury and sweet biscuits, and our melt-in-your-mouth snack range.
An exciting opportunity exists for a SHE Manager *at *NATIONAL BRANDS LIMITED Durban Tea factory. The purpose of the role is to oversee all safety, health and environmental matters to ensure that this site complies, at a minimum, with all statutory requirements. The role includes the management of fire and security risks and waste management for the site.

Key Performance Areas:
Safety
- Site compliance to OHS Act and other relevant regulations and legislation, including: Legal appointments, SHE committee, permits.
- Conduct risk assessments and manage programs to reduce risks to acceptable levels.
- Behaviour based safety program implemented.
- Visible safety leadership, including; red tagging, housekeeping, signage update programs.
- Report on and investigate all incidents and near misses.
- Maintain site ISO 45000 accreditation.
- Schedule monthly Safety meetings and manage resultant actions.
- Contractor management including induction, 37(2) Mandatory agreements and COID registration control.
- Visitor induction.
- Manage occupational surveys and resultant actions for correction e.g. dust, heat, noise, asbestos, ergonomic, illumination etc. surveys and assessments.
- Conduct operational risk assessments (HIRA), identify opportunities for improvement, and manage resultant actions.
- Allocate responsibilities to areas within plant for housekeeping and red tagging exercises
- Conduct internal compliance and safety audits, report on findings and manage issue log through to completion.
- Monitor and manage the cost of PPE.
- Conduct or organise relevant health and safety training for staff as required, including; first aid and fire fighting.
- Advise the 16(2) and GMR 2(1) responsible people on all SHE issues
- Liaise with DOL and municipalities where required.
- Keep up to date with changes in current legislation and implement such changes where relevant.
- Participate in plant SHE cross-audits within NBL.
Health
- Monitor and manage the Occupation Health Clinic and report on monthly statistics.
- Monitor and manage the onsite Laundry, and reconcile accounts.
- Manage any occupational health risks and reports as required.
- Identify trends and risks relating to health
- Manage garment contractor service level
- Environmental and facilities audits (Lighting, Noise, Air, ablutions etc.)
Environmental and waste management
- Maintain site ISO14000 accreditation.
- List and manage aspect and impacts relating to environmental requirements.
- Manage waste management contractor and report on performance.
- Manage effluent treatment plant contractor and report on performance.
- Perform reconciliation of recycling rebates and implement practises to reduce total waste to landfill and improve site sustainability practises.
- Manage and report on water and energy usage and implement programs to improve sustainability practises.
- Manage environmental systems and legislation to ensure site compliance.
Fire and Security risk
- Mange Fire and Emergency response protocol and emergency preparedness of site.
- Conduct drills for Fire and other risk scenarios.
- Manage Fire equipment audits, inspections and tests.
- Co-ordinate with group risk advisory (AVI and Marsh) and facilitate audits.
- Achieve and maintain site ASIB compliance.
- Improve practises and system to improve Marsh risk audit scoring.
- Responsibility for the access control system maintenance.
- Drive loss prevention and risk reduction programs at the site.
- Monitor and manage the security contractor.
- Manage CCTV system and interactions with ITSS to ensure continued operation of the surveillance system.
Reporting
- Prepare and submit the monthly Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) report.
- Prepare and submit the monthly Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) operational review report.
- Prepare and submit the Quarterly risk report.
Minimum Requirements:
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in similar role
Qualifications:
- Tertiary qualification Diploma or Degree in OHS from a recognised university
- ISO 18000 (45000) and ISO 14000 auditor status
Additional Requirements:
- Formal training and auditor status in an integrated Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) programme (e.g. ISO 45000)
