Purpose of the position:
Minimum Requirements:
- A relevant qualification from a three-year college or university; and one to two years related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least 1 - 2 years, relevant experience at a minimum, or completed accredited paralegal course
- 3 - 4 years relevant experience at a minimum Funder rules and regulations including PEPFAR and Global Fund NGO experience (advantageous) POPIA knowledge (advantageous)
- Valid drivers licence
- Clear criminal record
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform annual risk assessment linked to various awards through contract reviews
- Develop a risk register based on reviews
- Communicate risks to relevant stakeholders and monitor resolution
- Oversee administration of manual and electronic copies of all legal documents
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of contract registers
- Proactively communicate with relevant stakeholders prior to legal documents expiring
- Working with the grants team to ensure legal compliance and manage risks
- Advising on best practices and standards
- Conduct detailed legal reviews of the organisation’s progress against contracted requirements and financial documents
- Ensure compliance with funder requirements. Ensure compliance with statutory and legal requirements, including POPIA.
- Developing and facilitating compliance with relevant public and private laws and regulations, including through staff training programmes. Implementing a system to track, expedite, and fulfil legal support requests, which may range from urgent support on contracts, employment law questions, and registration of new entities
- Draft and review all forms of contracts including HR, operational, MOUs, and funder contracts
- Prepare and present reports as required
- Report on the results of internal legal investigations to the manager
- Provide legal advice to internal stakeholders
- Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders
