Telecommunications Technician

Netconnect Ltd is looking for two experienced telecommunications technicians to work in Wellington on contracted telecom projects. These projects will be headed by nationally recognised telecommunications service providers.

Hours: At least 35 hours per week

Location: Wellington

Wage: $25 to $30 per hour depending on experiance

Responsibilities:

  • The planning, designing and installation of telecommunication equipment for business and residential customers in compliance with laws and regulations and recommendations in the provisioning of telecommunications systems.
  • Connecting fibre at the cabinet, fusion splicing at FAT, FTP and ONT.
  • Programming and commissioning of end customer's data, voice (telephone) and internet data equipment provided by regional service providers.
  • Existing copper (landline) network integration with fibre network for residential and business customers.
  • Data transmission quality testing and fibre connections, troubleshooting with the help of a fibre inspection kit, power meter and laser lighting source
  • Reactive fault maintenance between customer or business premises to exchange, not limited to repair, reinstall, and replace.
  • Rearrangement or provision of complex new services to business customers.
  • Provisioning new telecommunication services with service providers.
  • Responding to inquiries about software and hardware problems of network equipment.
  • Determining the objectives and constraints of the design brief by consulting with clients and stakeholders.
  • Provide technical advice to customers and also monitor the performance of the network and its security.
  • Installation of customer's equipment for wireless broadband and structured wiring.
  • Coordinate with service providers, analysing and troubleshooting NGA faults. Calibrating telecommunication tools and testing equipment and recommendation.
  • Generate Daily, Weekly and Monthly jobs and KPIs reporting.
  • Managing Health and safety standards at all times.
  • Maintaining logs of the locations and status of inventories, parts, equipment, and instruments and maintaining the documentation of communication policies, procedures, guidelines and regulations, and quality standards
  • Manage customer and work quality standards.

Job Requirements

  • 2 years of relevant work experience
  • Good communication skill
  • Traffic management training and/or experience
  • Confined space training/experience
  • Knowledge of underground services
  • Knowledge of SDU infrastructure and UFB design rules and equipment
  • Must be physically and mentally fit to work in outdoor weather conditions

Salary: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
