The scope of this Consultant post will support the provision of quality patient and family centred care within the Paediatric Services, currently located in our flagship centre in Carrickmines.

The Consultant will;

  • Be part of the paediatric MDT, (nursing, physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, dietetics, psychology)
  • Primarily support the general paediatric clinic assessing, diagnosing and treating children with a range of conditions.
  • Support the implementation of the service specification for paediatric services within Vhi H&W

The Consultant will work alongside the existing consultant General Paediatricians to further advance the development of General Paediatrics and the capacity within this service to provide a responsive service to our customers.

.Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • The Consultant Paediatrician will provide comprehensive clinical care within Vhi H&W Paediatric Service from investigation through to diagnosis and management.
  • Participate in all aspects of the department of General Paediatrics including cross cover to patients of other consultants as appropriate during annual leave, sick leave etc.
  • Participate in the design of services including implementation of quality improvement initiatives, clinical audit as indicated etc
  • Maintain effective communication channels with all levels of staff through the facility
  • Coordinate appropriate referral to other specialty services as indicated
  • Champion clinical excellence and patient-centred healthcare and an integrated approach across Vhi H&W
  • Liaise with clinic manager and colleagues in all matters pertaining to the efficient management of services
  • Participate in the accreditation process for the paediatric service as appropriate
  • Engage in continuing medical education and activities related to maintenance of competence as required by the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland and the Medical Council of Ireland
  • Promote and develop a culture of quality and safety in line with the Vhi H&W QSR Framework and the Vhi H&W Mission, Vision and Values. Ensure that you, and any staff who report into you, initiate and participate in all QSR activities (e.g. audit, risk, incident, complaints) and improvements in keeping with the QSR Framework and Vhi H&W strategic objectives. Ensure that effective QSR policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines (PPPGs) are followed in compliance with statutory obligations, accreditation standards (e.g. JCI and HIQA) and evidence-based best practice.
  • Experience and/or specialist interest in developmental paediatrics, and in particular experience in the diagnosis and management of children with ADHD is a distinct advantage
  • Other sub specialty interests are an advantage
  • Experience of delivering care within the Irish health system - either private or public
  • Registration as a specialist in the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council in Ireland in the specialty of paediatrics
  • Experienced clinician with credibility and the ability to command the respect of all clinical and non-clinical professions
  • Significant experience in clinical practice in the area of General Paediatrics in a scheduled care setting
  • Operate with professional and personal integrity coupled with an overarching humility and proven ability to build strong working relationships.
  • Excellent inter-personal skills, including experience and familiarity with public & professional communciations and stakeholder relations
  • Demonstrate commitment to fostering partnerships, multi-professionals and multi-disciplinary relationships
  • Demonstrate alignment to Vhi Values
