About Energy Systems

We help customers navigate the complex transition to a decarbonized and more sustainable energy future. We do this by assuring that energy systems work safely and effectively, using solutions that are increasingly digital. We also help industries and governments to navigate the many complex, interrelated transitions taking place globally and regionally, in the energy industry.
About the role:
Here at DNV, what we do matters. The work we do every day from our full-scale fire and explosion test site at Spadeadam, Cumbria, is at the heart of the global Energy Transition to a more decarbonised and secure world.

The projects our world-renowned Major Hazards Research and Testing team undertake, helps the energy, counter terrorism and security sectors innovate with new technologies, and our findings help inform, guide and advise industry, ensuring it continues to enhance its ability to protect people, property and our environment. This is our shared purpose and one our people are proud to be part of.

Situated on the Cumbrian side of the border with Northumberland, Spadeadam provides the opportunity to live and work in a truly unique and beautiful area of the UK - you can choose to live rurally in the myriad of local villages and market towns, or in the cities of Carlisle or Newcastle, both within striking distance of the Northumberland and Lake District National Parks. Two coastlines are available to explore along with the World Heritage Site of Hadrian’s Wall.

Our Opportunity:
As the Escort Driver you will work alongside and be directed by our Gatehouse and Security Operative to deliver all control of entry and security services to our site. Primarily mobile based, working alongside MOD staff, you will be the face of DNV to offer an excellent level of customer service and care, ensuring all security procedures are met. You will be responsible for ensuring that all our visitors, customers and delivery drivers are escorted during the three-mile journey to our site. Our location, (situated within the boundaries of an active Royal Air Force Station where the Military exercise tight control on who can come onto the site), gives a unique challenge in ensuring that our ‘Customer Journey’ from arrival to exit is delivered to the highest standard.

Your role is to manage this situation, working closely with the Royal Air Force to ensure that all visitors are pre-approved and cleared to enter. On arrival at our location, you will ensure that all customers and visitors are directed to their site sponsor and delivery drivers are directed to their correct drop off point.

As a lower tier COMAH site, it is vital that rules on behaviour and prohibited items are communicated and adhered to. As part of your duties, you will be called upon to deputise for the Gatehouse and Security Operative for periods of leave and other absences.

You will be part of the team who are tasked with educating and inculcating a security culture in all of our staff. Visitors come to us from across the globe, so you will also provide advice to site staff on the exact military approval process for visitors from ‘Countries where Special Security Regulations Apply’ (CSSRA). This tiered system requires planning months in advance, to ensure that our work with these clients continues without disruption, with a need at times to show diplomacy and tact in delivering to the Royal Air Force the assurance it demands, whilst meeting the needs of our clients to deliver their projects.

As you can see, this is no ordinary role! You’ll be stretched but always supported by your colleagues, developing new skills, knowledge and helping you play a vital role in driving our safety, security and customer focused culture.
