The opportunity:
Hon Andrew Bayley and Hon Chris Penk are seeking a Private Secretary (Advisory Media) to provide joint support across their two offices. Working in the heart of the government, you will split your time supporting two Ministers outside of cabinet across a diverse array of portfolios (Hon Bayly: Commerce & Consumer Affairs, Small Business & Manufacturing, & Statistics; and Hon Penk: Building & Construction, Land Information, Veterans, Associate Defence & Associate Immigration) as part of the 54th Parliament.
As Private Secretary - Advisory Media, your new role will see you provide a range of administrative and advisory support to the Minister’s and their teams. Exact tasks vary by office, but you could expect to prepare media material for the Ministers, provide political oversight and advice on policy proposals and submissions, monitor media coverage, and support the ministerial office relationship with Coalition and support parties.
This is an events-based position based on a 3-year parliamentary term. The likely appointment range for this role is $83,595 - $97,620 per annum, with starting salaries reflecting relevant skills and experience, as well as internal parity.
What skills or experience would I need to be successful?
To be successful in this role, we’d expect your background will reflect:
- An understanding of the machinery of government and / or previous experience working in government.
- Experience relevant to the either or both Minister’s portfolios would be advantageous.
- Media, communications, or journalism experience is also highly desired
- Demonstrated experience preparing communications material
- Confidence in picking up new technology, with an intermediate - advanced level of capability in Microsoft programmes
- Flexible and positive in nature, you will be able to quickly adapt to changing priorities and proactively anticipate the needs of the Minister you are supporting
- An ability to work and problem solve at pace, with maturity and a high level of resilience and exceptional time management skills
- A tertiary qualification in Politics, International Relations or Communications would be advantageous
