About the opportunity
You'll take on a key role in our specialist Grid Investment and Modelling team, which supports smart decision-making for the benefit of all New Zealanders now and into the future. The team interfaces and works with a range of other teams nationwide who collectively manage critical infrastructure assets in excess of $5.5B.
Supported by your own research, expertise, and knowledge, you'll work with big data that comes from a variety of market and internally sourced data outputs providing insights across areas such as:

  • current and future electricity demands
  • potential generation capability
  • emerging new energy sources
  • future pricing and transmission demands
  • asset management and hydrology implications and impacts

You'll lead the production of high-quality economic advice and documentation to support major investment and expenditure decision-making, as well as crafting Major Capex Proposals ~$20M.
You will be coaching and mentoring within the team to build capability, you'll lead and complete economic and financial analysis, and undertake research into investment costs and the feasibility of alternatives. You'll provide thought and technical leadership across a variety of investment-related investigations.
What will you bring?
You'll love working with smart people to make decisions with far reaching impacts! With advanced quantitative economic analysis skills, regulatory compliance experience, and a well-developed ability to communicate your analysis, including visually and in written report format, you'll have experience leading and directing work including by external economic consultants.

Your CV and cover letter will demonstrate:

  • An Honours, Master's, or PhD level qualification in a quantitative field e.g., economics, finance, engineering, mathematics, statistics, or physics with proven commercial experience in economic analysis
  • Experience leading and undertaking complex economic analysis in support of expenditure decisions and / or strategic decision-making
  • Experience drafting high quality documentation for external parties, such as consultation papers
  • Experience coordinating and managing the input of a variety of modellers and analysts
  • Proven coaching and mentoring that supports the development of others
  • Achievement of results through strong collaboration and influencing
  • Experience maintaining modelling tools and processes
