As a Development Chemist, you will lead product development of next generation fouling control products and/or modify/support existing products, conduct product development in line with current legislation and anticipate future legislation. You will get the opportunity to build a close network with external labs and test institutes active in the area of fouling control.
Key Responsibilities
- Work independently and collaborate with PPG chemists, engineers, project managers globally for new product design and on-time delivery of project objectives
- Take an active role in problem solving of customer issues
- Produce and test paint formulations according to specific test methods
- Develop new fouling control products based on a specified product profile
- Carry out modifications and adjustments of current formulations
- Understand the function of key raw materials used
- Communicate effectively by preparing clear slides, delivering presentations to both technical and non-technical audiences, and meticulously documenting results in written reports
- Maintain oversight on developments in academia related to fouling control
- Provide internal technical support to product managers and the sales team
- Occasional inspection of the field exposition tests in a remote location (160 km distance)
Profile
- HBO/ MSc in Chemistry/ Materials science/ Polymer science or related areas
- +3 years fouling protection experience or similar areas (medical, food industry, cosmetic or pharmaceutical industry)
- Mandatory lab work experience
- Autonomy to operate effectively after an introduction period
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Hands-on mentality with a great team spirit
- Pragmatic and results-oriented attitude
- Innovative thinking paired with a can-do attitude
- Able to multitask and to function in continuously changing circumstances
- Fluent in English, both verbal and written
- Driver’s license is advantageous
