TEACHER ASSISTANT

Purpose of Role

A strong commitment to enhancing the educational experience of students, to support the lead teacher in delivering educational activities, managing the classroom, and ensuring the overall well-being of students by maintaining a safe, organized, and engaging learning environment. This position requires a dynamic individual who is adaptable and able to connect with students of varying learning styles and backgrounds, as well as ensure the educational program supports the mission, vision and beliefs of BSI.

Key Responsibilities

Classroom Management:

• Assist the teacher in preparing and organizing instructional materials and classroom activities.
• Help supervise and guide students during lessons, recess, lunchtime, and other daily routines.
• Accompany students during special activities, field trips, or school events.
• Encourage and model good hygiene, organization, and positive social behavior.

Student Engagement and Motivation:

• Support the implementation of daily routines (arrival, departure, snack time, classroom clean-up).
• Foster a positive and inclusive classroom culture that encourages student participation and collaboration.
• Observe and report on students’ progress and behavior to the lead teacher.
• Recognize and celebrate student achievements and milestones.

Professional Development:

• Engage in continuous professional growth and development through workshops, conferences, and other learning opportunities.
• Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and school activities as needed.
• Reflect on teaching practices and seek feedback for improvement.

Communication and Collaboration:

• Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
• Build and maintain positive relationships with students and their families.

• Communicate any significant concerns regarding students to the lead teacher promptly Curriculum Development and Implementation:

• Adapt and differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students.

Ethical and Professional Conduct:

• Adhere to the school's policies, procedures, and code of conduct.
• Demonstrate professionalism in all interactions and responsibilities.
• Uphold the highest standards of integrity, ethics, and confidentiality.

Extracurricular Involvement:

• Participate in and support school events, activities, and extracurricular programs.
• Serve as a role model and mentor to students outside of the classroom.
• Encourage student involvement in extracurricular activities to promote well-rounded development.

Student Support and Well-being:

• Provide academic, social, and emotional support to students as needed.
• Collaborate with homeroom teacher, school counselors, special education staff, and other support services to ensure student success.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

• High school diploma required.
• Currently pursuing a degree in Education child development, or related fields is preferred.
• Previous experience working with children in schools, daycare centers, or similar settings is an advantage, but not a requirement.
• Patience, empathy, and a genuine interest in working with children.
• Teamwork and strong communication skills.
• Organization and initiative.
• Dependability and a strong sense of responsibility.
• Ability to follow instructions and adapt to change.
