- Under the general direction of the Secretary-Manager V (CEO), the Staff Services Manager I (SSM I) oversees rental and box office operations, manages financial processes, ensures facility readiness, and represents the DAA in negotiations and community engagements. The SSM I will supervise a team of analysts, providing guidance and direction to ensure the successful execution of operational, financial, and strategic goals.

Working Conditions

  • Performing duties in an office setting, including extended periods of sitting and using a computer, as well as occasional walking or standing during meetings and events.
  • Frequent interaction with staff, external stakeholders, and the public, requiring effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Adapting to varying workloads, deadlines, and priorities, including occasional work beyond standard business hours to accommodate events, meetings, or urgent deadlines.
  • Occasional travel to attend meetings, events, or training, which will require driving and/or using other forms of transportation. Must have valid driver’s license and participate in the DMV pull program.
  • Exposure to a dynamic event environment, including noise, large crowds, and outdoor conditions when overseeing or supporting facility operations.

Department Information
- The 1-A District Agricultural Association (DAA), also known as the Cow Palace Arena & Event Center, operates under the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) on 68 acres, including a 16,000-seat arena, multiple exhibition halls, warehouses, and outdoor facilities. As a multi-purpose venue, the Cow Palace hosts the annual Grand National Junior Livestock, Horse Show, and Rodeo, among other year-round events that celebrate agricultural and cultural heritage within a diverse community. The Cow Palace’s mission is to promote and showcase a variety of entertainment and events that serve the needs and reflect the cultural diversity of the community; to conduct a unique event annually, The Grand National Livestock Expo, Horse Show & Rodeo, which encourages youth participation in the agricultural industry; and to provide a well-managed, year-round, multi-use facility for the enjoyment of the Bay Area and surrounding communities.
