Role Overview

  • Position: Welding Quality Control (QC) Inspector

Key Responsibilities

  • Weld Inspection: Perform visual inspections of welds before, during, and after fabrication to ensure structural integrity.
  • Compliance Checks: Verify that all welding activities comply with approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).
  • Drawing Compliance: Review engineering blueprints, CAD designs, and welding symbols to ensure accurate assembly execution.
  • Defect Detection: Identify surface imperfections, weld defects, or structural deviations, and manage the rework logging process.
  • Documentation: Maintain comprehensive inspection logs, welder performance records, and quality assurance release reports.
  • Sign-off: Certify and sign off on completed welded components prior to final product quality control checks.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Certification: Valid SAIW (South African Institute of Welding) Level 1 Inspector qualification is mandatory.
  • Education: Matric / N3 Technical Certificate minimum.
  • Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of welding inspection experience within a steel or sheet metal fabrication environment.
  • Skills: Advanced proficiency in reading complex fabrication drawings and standard welding symbols.
  • Standards: Solid understanding of ISO 3834 (welding quality requirements) and ISO 9001 systems.
  • Attributes: High precision, sober habits, strong problem-solving skills, and clear communication.
